WTF? rough idle after refueling (new car!)
Happened the last two times I filled up.
Brand new Nismo, less than 2k miles. Pulled into gas station with about 50 miles range left in the tank. Filled with premium gas. Started car. A second or two later, the car's struggling to maintain smooth idle?? Snaps out of it after a few seconds... What's going on here? Anyone else experience this? I've never refilled with anything other than premium - hell, I bet I haven't refilled more than 10 times yet.. I'm not sure taking it to Nissan will do anything since they can't really replicate the problem. What you guys think? |

Weird. If it didn't recover so fast, I'd suspect bad gas. I'd get an OBD scanner and see if the computer is showing any error codes. You may need to monitor/log after you fill up. I suspect an emissions control problem (eg, bad gas cap) but not at all sure of that diagnosis.

I have never had anything like that happen to me. I'd swing by the dealership and grab a tech when its close to time to fill up and see if it happens while they are present?

I had it happen to me when I purchased CHEAP super unleaded gas.
I know only use Exon or Shell super unleaded and it has happened again

One time it was Marathon gas, the other time it was Wawa... not the most reputable but (hopefully) not as bad as walmart gas.
The other thing is it only happened the instant after I refilled, and never re-occurred while using up the tank. I'm thinking something happened with respect to bubbles in the fuel lines...? Can that happen? Or maybe some sort of vapor phenomenon from starting the car back up after being turned off for 1-2 minutes?? |

There's the answer to your question. Stick to the stations on this list: Top Tier Gasoline

Yes but I feel we're attributing the initial startup to bad gas... but if it were bad gas id have problems for the entire gas tank, not just the moments after startup at the gas station, no? My existing fuel is probably still whatever I had in there before and not the 'new' gas. Somethings happening by the act of filling up or starting the engine so soon after shutting it off..
Well, only way to tell is to use 'reputable' gas and see if I still experience the same thing upon startup. |

No. Because your ECU is pulling timing to compensate for the el cheapo gas to keep your engine from knocking. It's the reason why you can fill up with Regular and you wouldn't notice anything.

i decided to head to a gas station that carried 100octane and mixed it at around half empty. that took care of it for that situation. |
