Funny Story...
So I made a quick stop at the grocery store with my girlfriend yesterday and parked in the usual no man's land. Nothing terribly eventful happened at this point. I saw a regular customer from work on the way into the store and said hi. On the way out I noticed a small gathering of people around my car. One of them appeared to be taking pictures of the car. "Cool" I thought. "Yeah, my ride's hot". My girlfriend started rolling her eyes at this point. I also noticed what a crap-a** parking job I did. I was parked over like 4 spots. I don't remember parking THAT bad... :icon08:
As I got closer I said hi to one of the guys around my car. "Is this your car?" the guy says. "Yep" I say all proud. Then the guy starts to tell me how he watched the car ROLLING from the original parking spot towards an embankment at the edge of the parking lot and ran over to hold it steady before it gained any real speed!!! :icon14: He said there are rocks under the tires holding it there now! I looked inside the car and found that I left it in neutral AND didn't put the parking break on!!! WTF!!!! I even put the parking break on when it is sitting on my flat garage floor... :ugh2: So I'm at work today and that customer I saw yesterday on my way into the grocery store comes in and starts telling me this wild story about "...some nimrod in a supped up Nissan with mag wheel left his e-break off and..." I stopped him before he could continue..."I'M the nimrod with the Nissan..." :shakes head: :rofl2: |
E brake is almost second nature to me and I usually put it in first to boot. Take this as a real cheap lesson that you only had to pay for with a little ego. Cheap indeed.

Hahaha, that is one hell of a story  Consider yourself a lucky son of a gun!

I'll make you feel better. I did the same thing parked my car Volvo V60 at the time in my garage. Apparently left it in neutral and didn't set the brake and went into the house. A few minutes later a neighbour rings my door bell and asks if I know my car is across the street and on another neighbours front lawn.
I was lucky as hell. Car rolled out of the garage down the driveway across the street over the curb and onto my neighbours lawn, no one hurt and no damage done. I sheepishly drove my car off their lawn stuck it in the garage, set the brake closed the garage, and hid in my house. totally embarrassed but happy no one was hurt. |
Man I would buy that guy a case of beer.
|
I've done that too. I almost ran my wife's altima,(5MT) into my sleeping Z in the carport. Man did i get an earfull. I had to hold it back from hitting it, feet slipping and everything.

Glad to see I'm not the only one thats been spared some expensive damage. For me sometimes I get distracted. Thank god I rarely leave it in neutral else I would have no backup
|
Lucky you, ya dang nimrod! :p
I've forgotten to put my car in neutral before (finishing a song before I turn off the car is the usual culprit) but I have never forgotten the E-brake. It's so instinctual, I don't even think about it! |
Your gf probably was jealous and thought I'm going to show this guy. So as yall got out of the car she put the car in neutral and took parking park off.

Hilarious... glad your car is OK. Did you buy that guy a case of beer?

:iagree: you're lucky someone actually cared about your car rolling away and stopped it for u.:tiphat:
Some people would have pulled out their cell and u would have seen it rolling, crashing on YouTube :roflpuke2: U must live in a friendly neighbourhood:tup: Glad she's OK:driving: |
I think you came out lucky. The handbrake and 1st gear comes second nature to me... So much so that I can't recall doing it. Its like when everyone checks their own pockets when one person says "I've lost my wallet." Please excuse me while I go check my car in the parking lot now.
