I bought a New Z 2weeks ago. now i have 302 miles on it. is it okay to go to track and race someone even if the engine has not break in yet?

It's not just the motor that has to break in. It's the brakes, clutch, etc. Follow the recommended break in procedure in the manual unless you can articulately explain from a mechanical standpoint why you are choosing not to do so.

If you believe in break in period then no. If you don't believe in break in period then yes. If you are not sure, then google "should I break in my new car"? It's really another break in debate which is beaten to death already. In any case, congrads on your new 370z!!:tiphat:

It's a debate between engineers who built it saying it needs to break in, and guys on the internet saying you don't have to break it in.

Nothing would have been destroyed. It's a car, not a Faberge egg. It's "not good" to track the car when it's that new. It's not the end of the world. It wouldn't have exploded. It might have used more oil when it got to high mileage.

Black and White says not to "rev" over 3500 during break-in period. If you don't follow these instructions and have a "freak" mechanical break down... You'll find yourself getting ripped by one of these guys when you post why "this" broke while doing "this" in the engine & drivetrain section :roflpuke2:

Drive it like you stole it!

Seriously, break it in per the owners manual and you'll be that much happier in the long run.

Just drive 900 more miles really quick

Infidel 04-25-2014 07:06 PM

WOW...only 300 miles after 2 weeks? There's more than going for milk and eggs for the wife. Get out and drive, I had over 1K miles by then...I drove just to drive, it's a new car for f*cks sake. Go have some fun. :eekdance:

BTW...congrats :tiphat:

Chuck33079 04-25-2014 07:07 PM

I had 300 miles on the car four hours after I bought it. Of course, I bought it 900 miles from home. :rofl2:
