Costs too much to buy a place with a garage in the area that I'm staying at. I'm not renting either...I own the condo.

Since it is being paid out by the comprehensive part of my policy, I've been told that my rate would not change. Now it will still be reported one the insurance history record which I guess is a record shared among insurance companies.

Update:
Went to the service center today where I was told I was supposed to get a check cut out to me then and there. They ended up sending me away without a check since they have to research on the price quotes. Also there seems to be a bit of damage to my side skirts, two rotors (right side), and the metal shield behind the rotors on the rear wheels. They told me they will first write a check for the wheels to get that out of the way and for me to bring the car to a shop to assess the other damages (side skirt, rotors, and rotor shield). Would the Nissan dealer be able to give a quote on the side skirt repairs since most of their collision centers are offsite? Are they able to price it by online prices as well? If so, should I argue them for local dealer price quotes?

A dealer should be able to do a basic quote, since they all have access to the same manuals and parts catalog. Usually they have the separate locations for collision centers so that they don't clog up their work bays with accident claims instead of vehicles in for the usual dealer maintenance. And the techs could always call the CC if they have questions that they don't know the answers to. Whether or not the prices listed in their parts catalog are the same as the online prices or not, I have no idea.
As for quotes, my recommendation is to have a quote done by the shop that YOU want to do the work. Insurance companies typically don't require multiple quotes, and are just as happy to pay what one shop asks for the repairs. As long as they do a thorough estimate, you should be good. It helps if the shop in question is a part of that insurance companies' repair network, but if it isn't, it isn't a deal breaker. You should still be able to use that shop, but you may or may not have to argue the point with the adjuster you are dealing with. Depends on the company, and how good the adjuster is feeling that day. Anyways, best of luck to you chief.

Or check to see if you have any self storage spaces nearby with drive in units. I am suggesting this because I am doing something similar myself and I can tell you that if I had continued to leave my Z at my apt, my wheels and or whole car would have been jacked already. Obviously not everyone can have the most desirable housing situation to support our car hobby, but you can find ways to work around some situations. Wishing you the best in getting the check cut so you can get your new rims and get the damage repaired. |

The z is my daily so not really an option to garage it offsite haha. I got the check today and the amount is what I was initially expecting. They use a internal pricing program which priced the michelin pss a bit lower than what tirerack or discounttires have them for. Oh well.
So they made out the check to myself and the lien holder. Since the damage is mainly to missing wheels the bank will categorize it as a self repair so it does not have to go to a body shop. I will still have to send in the check with before and after pictures of the car and then they will endorse it and send back to me.

How much was it for?
You don't need to accept the insurance company's first offer

They also said the rotors did not need replacing and just needed to be resurfaced.

Them that labor might be $42 in the ghettos of Houston... And no one will reprogram TPMS for $42, or take all your discs off and resurface them for $42/hour either

Yep. A dealer is going to hit you for $90-110. $42/hr industry standard my ***. Reject the offer until they are a little more realistic.

that insurance lady should be fired lol sucks she questioned you like that. you are correct, if claim gets paid out of comprehensive it doesnt impact rates. it will appear in the motor veh report but its nothing major if you should ever change insurance companies. if they see a pattern then its a cause for concern. sorry to hear about wheels

He just said if it cost more to sync the sensors to just send him the invoice and he'll cut me another check for the difference.
Actually it was $70/hr for mechanical work and $42/hr for body/refinish work.

It will. A dealer will charge you an hour of labor to sync the sensors. Of course, Costco will do it cheap, especially if you buy your replacement tires there. And both of those labor rates are pulled right out of their asses.
