One day, this guy in a clean Datsun 510 with roll-bar, gauges, suspension, nice Panasport wheels, and you could hear his Mikuni carbs, rolls up next to me at the red light. He's smirking, and so did I....Green light. Boom! I blow his *** away by at least 4 car lengths. Now, this was in my early 20s. I don't do this anymore, and it was before Hondas started going rice.

Don't underestimate all Hondas :)..some can hit 12s and are streetable.

:icon18: hahaha!! odyesseee powAr!! you funny guy.

^ you don't think 14, 15 years ago that an all-motor Honda that broke 13s was fast?...Trailer queens then were hitting 10s and even single digits. But yeah, I'm not talking trailer queens that break down or blow up after a run or two. There were streetable Hondas doing 12s even back then.

Vipers, Ferraris, etc. back then were only breaking 12s...if you look at it relatively.

I'd feel embarrassed if a Honda at least kept up with me in a 370Z.

Around here, it's guys driving their mini-van like it's a sports car. It is hilarious to watch them haul *** from the stoplight, change lanes (no turn signals) and then almost lose it trying to get stopped at the next light. Meanwhile, I barely get to third. Then there are the soccer moms in SUVs. Texting and driving all over the road. I think my next mod is a 106 recoilless rifle in the hatch area.... :shakes head: :driving:

A 13 has never been fast. It's quick, but not a fast car at all. Is it impressive a 1.whatever liter shitbox ran it? I guess. There's a huge difference between a mid to high 13 and 12s. And you're comparing a modified car to a stock car. If you include modified cars, there would be a list a mile long of full interior, street tire and pump gas cars running better than that all motor. And using "streetable" as a crutch to explain why the car isn't fast is weak. If you have to make it undriveable to hit lower than a 12 then you picked the wrong car.

I'd rather be embarassed in the Z than be in the Honda at all.

A 1.6 (B16A) or 1.8 (B18C) Naturally Aspirated ran 13s. Power to weight. H22 with port & polish with all bolt on's, high 12s no prob..Hondas were hitting 12s NA in the 2000s and prior. Streetable meaning what? pass smog, then yes, a few were streetable.

13s has never been fast?...STOCK NSXs, Z32 TTs, FD3S, Supra MKIV TTs, Vette C5s and older, BMW M3s prior to E92s, even Ferrari F360s...all hit 13s...and they were CONSIDERED fast for their era.

I'm not trying to start a flame war. I don't like ricers neither because they're posers. But well built Hondas are fast for what they are.

The "sleeper" factor is what shocked/embarrassed the smug challenger.

Great. You're in the wrong place to defend your straight piped civic. :rofl2: Plus, you're focusing on ETs to determine "fast". I'll bet you lunch evey one of those stock cars traps noticeably higher than some fwd crapbox.

edk370 04-02-2014 02:19 PM

^when you use a "big block motorcycle" engine...to pull a 2,400 lb. car to do 13s...I think that's something noteworthy.

I got outta the Honda scene...owhhh, in '04. I sold that EG then. I'm not defending anything. I essentially got outta the Honda scene because it was getting ricey, cops will constantly pull you over, but best of all...I was getting older and it looks immature. Plus the JDM, Honda thing was becoming passé around that time.

It's the shock factor, or sleeper character that made Hondas interesting.

Chuck33079 04-02-2014 02:22 PM

There's nothing sleeper about a civic hatch with a straight pipe. It sounds like ricey *** and eveyone around knows it.

edk370 04-02-2014 02:26 PM

^depends on the exhaust you use. Plus I did use a high flow, high performance, aftermarket cat...I forgot which brand but they used to advertise them in Turbo magazine. They were like $200+, kinda pricey for a cat. When DOHC VTEC hits....it sounds BEAU-TI-FUL!

Chuck33079 04-02-2014 02:29 PM

If you swing that way, I guess. The only Honda I4 I've ever heard that didn't sound like a bag of smashed assholes was in a S2K.
