My mods are pretty weak compared to most.
First mod was a ScanGaugeII, then: Passenger seat cover for my dogs Sound damping from GTMat (free sample) Pulled SLU fuse The370Z.com decal So far, that's it. I plan on doing some experimenting with insulating the intake air in the next few weeks.

CF NISMO shift knob. Would have done it at the dealership before I drove off but I wanted to drive it off first.

Beginner Mods
Hey guys, my Z is pretty new and I was just wondering what some new beginner mods would be. Obviously not trying to replace the exhaust or anything SUPER to the engine just yet but what are some minor engine mods I can make to increase my performance, make the engine a bit louder and maybe even a bit more fuel efficient, if any of those are even possible. And then if I could get a few appearance mods that you guys have really like as well. Thanks a bunch! Trying to start off small and say maybe spend $300-$400 a month just to budget things out for now.

I should be doing this too:
GT-R Push to Start Button. It's a 'Ohhh a shiny red button!' mod. 1) Get a flathead screw driver 2) Pry out the Push to Start button area with said screw driver, its the silver lining part, start from there. 3) .. God dammit wheres the link. BRB going to edit this post real quick. GTR start button! another alternative.. and iirc, I'm pretty sure there's another thread floating around here talking about this same topic. But to be fair, the search function is harder to use in the forums, so you might want to Google it. Last edited by EndyKwon; 04-27-2013 at 03:10 AM. |

Z1 intake tubes+K&N filter or a cold air intake. This would be the cheapest nonexhaust power mod. I'd expect 10-15 hp out of that.
If you drive hard, I think DOT4 brake fluid is a good one. I used to always be scared my fluid would boil coming down from the dragon. Switched to ATE Super Blue, which is pretty cheap and much better than OEM fluid. I also really liked putting in Swift springs. Reduced body roll quite a bit and lowered the car perfectly for me. Swaybars could be good too. Next to an exhaust, suspension changed the feel of my car the most.

For the budget I would go with Stillen Gen 3 intake, I picked mine up on the forum for $360 shipped, wait and check everyday one will come up around your budget,

Sway bars would be the first thing I would start with. Then springs and a good alignment. A metal under tray to replace the stock one for peace of mind. Save up a couple of months for an oil cooler. Get a feel for the car before you start adding power. It's fast enough to get away from you bone stock.

another cheap and easy one is a set of NST pulleys. That with the new belt will run you ~$220 I think and get you around 10-12 horsepower, plus your motor revs smoother and faster. I would take care of handling first, Swifts can be had for $300 and greatly improve the feel of your car's handling, spacers for your wheels, front swaybar, etc.

Wow, I looked into all of what you guys posted, and I love them all pretty much. I'm a noob to the car world since this is my first REAL sports car I'm gonna be modifying but I'm building my car IQ slowly. I really love that Stillen Gen 3 intake. I really liked that NST Pulley. I'm looking into the Fast Intentions Cat Back in a few months as well but I honestly really like the stock handling for the Z. The sporty feel, handling and springs on the stock seem close to perfect in what I enjoy. What interested you guys in changing the handling? annnd, the K&N Drop Ins + z1 MAF Tubes, those aren't intakes are they? I can have those in the car WITH a stillen gen 3 intake? or is that not possible.
AND LOL the decal for this forum is a MUST. You guys are all SOO helpful, I can't be more thankful. Also, what exactly are sway bars good for? And how much does a decent one run? I don't want anythign cheap on my car so if I have to wait before making a purchase, I'll by all means do that. I'm in no rush. |

As for the swaybar, it reduces the body roll thus increases the handling. It's a couple hundred dollors. Hotchkis is what I would recommend. While you are very welcome to ask us questions, search is your best friend. There are already tons of informations on the internet. |
