The real answer I think depends on how you modify it.

And no offense to anyone that buys AT, but I can't possibly imagine driving a car like this, with automatic transmission. It defeats the entire purpose of having fun with a car as powerful as this, lets not forget gear control. Just my 2 cents

Last I checked you have full control over shifting gears with the 7AT...

Some might make fun of you for your mods but it doesn't really matter what they think. It's your car, do with it as you like. Put a big wing on top of your Z if that's what trips your trigger. We'll probably make fun of that, but we don't really matter. ;)

Edit: Nothing wrong with an auto. I can drive a manual but prefer an auto for my DD. If my Z were a weekend toy, I'd probably have gone with a manual.

oh jesus christ :shakes head:

soooo should i be the guy to defend the OP and his 7AT choice? i mean i guess we gotta stick together.

then i saw he's 17 so i will not troll like you all :stirthepot:

or will i....... :tiphat:

Why is everyone hating on the A/T? Silly boys want to play with a stick and stomp on the floor board all the time and thats better? Im all about the A/T and glad I have it.

M/T are dinosaurs and disappearing for a reason guys. :stirthepot:

As far as modding an A/T, not sure about these newer cars with electronics controlling the shift points. With the old school cars you could install a shift kit or powerball it.

What are you looking for out of the tranny any way?

uprev tuner can change your rev limited, line pressures, etc. of the 7AT.

had mine changed slightly along with my dtno tune and its great.

Hmm thanks for the info. I didn't know. The Autos i've driven were older ones. e46 m3, camaro, and evo. Those were fairly quick but a little boring to drive.

But I haven't driven new auto cars :icon14:

yes in manual mode it will not shift up for you but it will down shift so it doesnt stall. i drive mine 99% of the time in MT mode.

7 AT 4.08 gears, full bolt ons.
and a cobb tune.
hang on for life in 1 st and 2 nd gears.
get some big tire 305 35 18 mt drag radials.
12.34 @ 114.14 in the 1/4 mile. 1.800. 60 ft times.
not slow and not boring to drive.
just floor it keep it floored and shift with the paddles. ( do not lift when you change gears.)

drag radials are use less in the rain .

Go to a Nissan dealer and test drive a 7AT.......then come back and post your comments.

Agree with previous post. MT are going the way of the dinosaurs. Dual Clutch Auto's are taking over. Just look at Ferrari's. MT not even available in some of their newer lines and growing with various car MFG's as well.

The 370Z 7AT is faster than MT. I have driven both........And yes, you have absolutely full gear control.................Full control.

Just do some research on how much the A/T can handle before you go 400+ hp. Building it up ain't cheap.

And the haters... Will always hate.

karotZ 03-24-2014 06:16 PM

You are missing a pedal.

JWillis72 03-24-2014 06:36 PM

I just had my car at the tuners tuning for the Aquamist meth injection kit and while I was there we spent a lot of time on the 7 AT line pressures. The car now shifts so fast in high RPMs there is no way I could come close in a MT.

i would like to see your map that you changed for the torque setting .
I have the GTM map for the my built stage 4 GTM.

thanks

Z
