Nissan 370Z threatens the art of heel toeing

Those of us that have spent hours trying to perfect the art of heel and toeing will be frustrated to hear that the new Nissan 370Z, a car that supposedly celebrates the basic joys of driving, can now do it for you with its new SyncroRev Match system.

Heel and toeing is the practice of both pressing the brake pedal and blipping the throttle pedal to match revs diving heavy braking with your right foot. It stops the rear wheels from locking when you release the clutch and makes you look and sound like a bit of a legend too.

But it’s only really needed when you’re near the limit and if you’re going to push a powerful rear-wheel drive sports car as quickly as it’ll go you should really have the basics of fast driving under your belt.

I’m sure the SyncroRev Match is very clever and probably works quite well but the same could be said for a piano that plays itself – it might be note perfect but where’s the fun in that?

the feature is meant for drivers to focus more on the steering stuff and the car will do the heel to toe stuff for ya.

If you couldn't turn it off, I would agree. If you're a hardcore enthusiast, just press the button!

Just like the Enzo is a perverse bastardization of manual gearboxes and non power assisted steering/brakes. That's why I would never buy an Enzo, I'm a serious car enthusiast and all these fancy 'go fast' shenanigans just take the skill out of racing.

/idiot 'racing purist' snob comment.

As many people have said, just push the button.

I think it will be a great feature.

Yeah seriously just push the damn button and turn it off. People will always have something bad to say about a car that has changed after 7 years of being practically unchanged. This is very technically advanced stuff and I can't wait to be part of the history. If they don't like it turn it off or buy something else.

Oh, the same crap was written about ABS brakes. There is still a minority out there that grouses about ABS, but for the most part even track guys (myself included) admit that it's nice to have, and can be a real advantage on the track.

Remember when power steering was for "girls" and not for racecars? Well, that's out the window too, as is the stick shift for formula cars and prototypes.

So, in short, people gripe whenever the state of the art changes the playing field. Tough luck, get used to it, or (thanks to that little off button) don't.

If there wasn't a button, I would be complaining. But there's a button to turn it off. What's there to complain about?

Besides, its a neat feature I might use once in a while.
