I would lease a '14 nismo and see what the Z35 looks like when the details come out in 6-12months time.

Congrats on the PW 14'
11-12% interest:eek: That's nuts:icon14:
hopefully in the 6 month you can bring that down to at least under 5%

the Z is not expensive, but it was never intended for the poor. if you have sufficient income, how about you just wait it out 2yrs, and buy your first car cash? no one said you have to lease or finance a car. and assuming you're still young do you really need a 30K+ burden?

I'm curious as to why you'd recommend he buy a car cash when it's obvious that (assuming he'd be able to get approved) a lease would be in his best interest. If he ends up wanting a Z35 instead in a few years, a lease allows him the easiest way out of his Z34 given that our cars don't exactly retain their value very well.

I realize that this is all moot given that the OP appears to have financed a car, but your comment just came across as a "leasing is bad" generalization I hear all too often from customers who simply don't understand how they work.

As for the OP, congrats on the purchase. Wish I had read this thread earlier as I'm always happy to help a fellow forum member out with a new vehicle purchase.

6.5% through Nissan which was a deal for me. Definitely refinancing in 3-6 months. I don't mind paying my "dues" to build excellent credit, but it'll only be for 3-6 months.

If the Z35 was going to be released as a MY 2015 car, then it would be revealed by now. As some other ppl said we're looking at 2016 by the earliest.

this is his first car, no money, limited monthly budget, and was still wondering wat he wanted at the time. my recommendation to anyone in that state is not to get their head stuck in debt so soon, SAVE UP money to make a sound decision before letting selfish dealers like you, push novice customers into getting a new car for your benefit. that's all.

there is no need to buy an impractical sports car like the Z in a rush.

apr of 11-12% ? holy f-king hell. i would never do that.

kenchan 03-08-2014 11:45 AM

but to the op- congrats on getting the car.

im not here to ruin your new car experience nor here to preach to you. :hello:
my comments are more in general sense.

It's all good. Can't really expect much in the WEBZ. I know I made a great decision and don't regret it . Should I have bought a house instead? Probably. The way I see it, I'm paying my dues for my credit so when it's time to buy a house, I can get a prime loan. None of that 30yr BS. I'm a frequent contributor of MyFico forums.

I'm just happy to be a Z brother. What should be my first mod? Oil cooler? Anything recommended?

I want to get a pair of Bride seats and a Borla/meisterchaft exhaust. That's something that's will be down in 3-6 months though.

Don't need an oil cooler unless you plan on taking your car to a track on a regular basis..oil will usually never go above 200 with everyday driving..

My first mod..well was to upgrade the stereo system..other than driving the car..the radio will get the most use..

2nd) was the exhaust. Almost a must-have..stock is far to quiet for a sports car

3/4th ) is going to be a cf lip and duckbill spoiler that will be delivered by late next week.

5th) Save

6th) Up in the air right now..possibly a CF rear diffuser.. or CF sideskirts...Cold air Intake (probably the best choice) or save some more for a new set of wheels.

As understand it so far in 2015, the Nismo is getting an Automatic, and Maximum is being redesigned. I know there has not been any official release and car critiques are saying Nissan will do something. One thing is true when or if they announce the 15. If u like it u will be in good shape to get it. If not I am sure u can find a 14 Z instead.

Maxima isn't going to come out to the 16 model year per Ghosn and the new Z will probably as well.. These two will be some of the longest production run Nissan cars in America for a while. The G Sedan has them both beat though by 2 years as it stands today.

So ignorant, and in all honesty, just plain rude. The OP clearly wanted a Z, whether or not it's a sound financial decision isn't up to you, it's up to him. In all honesty, a 370Z is NEVER a sound decision from a practicality standpoint, it's a pure want item but we (the Z community) all lust for the speed, sound, feel, drive and the rush we get from our cars. Sometimes the want outweighs the need.

My point is that the way you somewhat bashed the idea of a lease came off as uninformed. If someone came to me and said that they wanted a Z now but had an eye on the Z35, I'd recommend a lease all day. It's that very line of thinking that led me to lease my '13, because if the Z35 does end up becoming a bit too digital for my somewhat old school taste, I have the option to buy my Z34. If on the other hand the Z35 or the IDx wins me over, I have an easy out.

I'm happy for the OP, and the truth is that as a first time buyer it'd be hard as F to get him into a lease on a Z without a large chunk of change down. A 12% APR is a bit high for those of us used to Tier 1 credit, but it's his decision and he can always refinance with a credit union in a year.

Your comment about me being "a selfish dealer" is just plain rude and ignorant though. I was a huge part of the Hawaii G35 community back when I had my G and ran our Oahu club and sold a ton of cars to many members. After moving to LA I've sold a handful of Zs, LEAFs and other Nissans to a few folks who are members here and over at My350Z.com as well. I'm sorry you feel a need to stereotype but not everyone who works in the car sales industry is a jerk. I'm assuming that your attitude stems from negative experiences with dealerships but we're not in the showroom here, this is a board for Z enthusiasts alike.

The A36 Maxima should be here this fall as a 2015 model. Right now the update cycle looks like:

2015 Juke Facelift - Spring 2014
2015 (Gen III) Murano - Spring/Summer 2014
2015 (Gen VIII) Maxima - Fall 2014
2016 Titan - Spring/Summer/Fall 2015

No word on the Z yet, Nissan has been incredibly tight-lipped about it but many signs seem to point toward a FI inline-4.

Well said bruddahmanmatt.

Codename067 03-09-2014 02:40 PM

I leased my 14, and I would've considered waiting for a new Z but a little common sense like already mentioned by others is that it will be expensive when it comes out and will def. have some problems that will take sometime to figure out. also like mentioned, all the problems have been fixed in the 14! I got my 14 without thinking twice.
