base vs sport package

If I am going to modify the car, does this mean I am only getting the limited differential since the wheels, suspension and rear spoiler will get upgraded? Thanks.

Thinking of Automatic, not quite sure I can deal with 6MT as DD. So basically just limted-slip differential and upgraded brake?

These are the obvious differences between sport and base

Sport- 19'' Forged Rays (very popular to re-sale) vs 18'' stock wheels (which can look really nice powdercoated)
Nissan BBK (aftermarket stuff is expensive) vs really ugly calipers. Like... you can kind of see it in my avatar there glowing a bright dirty-silver....

Id say unless you are going to mod out everything.. Sport package starts you off nicely..

Other stuff is performance related.. like a sportier suspension and stuff that I personally would never be able to notice unless you told me.

7aT is fun..and if you get in that manual mood.. you have paddle shifters.

Same suspension between cars pre-13

This is not entirely correct. Adding the brakes cost a touch over $1k. You cannot add the Nissan nav, but it's very easy to go aftermarket if that's your flavor. And upgrading the Bose system in the touring trim is more difficult.

OP: Which packages make sense depend on your plans for the car. Touring is nice if you like how Nissan has the car packaged.

Sport makes sense if you want a really cost-effective set of baseline modifications. If your goals are for more serious track use, the SRM will be the only item you would miss out on. The VLSD included in the sport package is not going to cut it for serious use, you will likely want wider/lighter wheels, and the Akebono's are probably a step below what you would need for serious use (and, if they are what you want, they are readily available new or used). If your plans aren't so over the top, the upgrades included may well be worth it.

Timing of your planned upgrades will matter as well-if you order some long-lead parts, you might want the sport package in the interim.

I've had both the 7AT and 6MT and I will say the clutch and shifting in the 6MT is so easy that it is fine as a daily driver. The 7AT is also about as much fun in an auto as can be had for a reasonable price.

if you're planning to really mod this car into a track machine (aka SPOHN) i think it's worth getting the base and do it all from scratch, but for someone that's going to be motoring around town and spirited weekend drives, the sport package will be more than plenty imho.

Thanks for all the info. I drove nothing but MBZ (all pretty old models) for my past 15, 20 years. I did have a 87 300zx and 911 turbo for very short period of time. It is about time to get some changes before I get too old. Maybe I am too old for this already! I still own 5 mbz at home, my DD is a 94 E420, V8. Very solid car. 560 sec, sel, 500sl and E350 are the others.
Just in the planning stage. really get exciting after seeing some tasteful mod cars here by you guys. Thinking about either red or blue. after market front, rear spoiler and skirt. Exhaust system, intake. that is about it for me, I believe. So sport model should be good? + spacer to push out the rims futher.

yah, but if you're going for aftermarket front and skirts, the factory wheels might be too weak even with spacers. i recommend getting the sport package, do the mods you want, lower it, and sell the sport wheels. at least you get the bigger brakes, syncro rev match and others.

Sounds like the right way to go for what you want to do with the car. The sport package will help resale as well, not sure if that is a concern for you

You are in the same boat I was. I just ended up getting a base due to the price + mileage on the car was a very good deal. As far as modifying it.. ive done the stereo, exhaust, and have a aftermarket wing + front lip hopefully shipped to me soon. I plan on going to 20'' tire and dropping the car 1-2 inches (simple swift spring thing..tho I need to learn more about it)..and depending on the aftermarket wheels I get..i may or may not need spacers.
