yah, how about you pay the 776 and drive home happy?

Chuck33079 03-05-2014 01:47 PM

Fuel sensor? I'm unclear what part that is. What is the car doing?

Chuck33079 03-05-2014 01:51 PM

So the level sensor in the tank? Not sure how that would effect the car's ability to start. If you don't want to pay to have it fixed, just figure a rough ballpark of fuel remaining by your trip meter..

Chuck33079 03-05-2014 01:53 PM

And OP, you might get more responses with a more descriptive title and in the correct subforum.

im ok to count the miles i dont really need the sensor but the problem is the dealer told me i may not be able to start the car in the future...

im going to pick up the car now and ask the dealer to print out what actually the problem of my car. on the phone he just said the fuel sensor...

Chuck33079 03-05-2014 01:57 PM

If it's the float that sends the fuel level to the gauge, ask him how that would cause the car not to start. As long as there's fuel in it, of course.

And look in your local subforum for a reputable independant shop.

what was the originally reason you brought the Z to the dealer?

is the fuel sensor problem related to the issue you originally has?

alcheng 03-05-2014 03:39 PM

if the OP brought the Z in for oil change and all the sudden the SA tells him "oh.. you need to change the sensor..."

then I'll be :wtf2: how would you do a diagnosis that should cost $80 but now for free and then tell me I need to pay $800.

was your Z behaving normally before you brought in to the dealer?

I will suggest you bring it to a reputated local mechanic and get a 2nd opinion.

kenchan 03-05-2014 03:56 PM

i think he was the one that walked 2 miles to get a gallon of gas the other night.

i brought my Z in to the nissan dealer yesterday at first the guy told me its free to replace the sensor and i have a recall for the steering problem so this morning i leave my Z at the dealer to fix it and they called me saying the sensor is not cover by the powertrain warranty therefore i have to pay 776 dollars to fix it... i just got my car back without fixing the sensor problem im not gonna give 776 dollars for a sensor...

Luciano13 03-05-2014 04:36 PM

something doesn't make sense.....
if its the fuel sensor which indicates the gauge levels, who cares.
If its a fuel sensor for the fuel injectors, if there is such sensor??? That may need to be looked after;)

Chuck33079 03-05-2014 04:51 PM

I think you need to get a much clearer description of what they're saying the problem is, and then clearly post what they say.

shawnski 03-05-2014 06:55 PM

is this had anything to do with your fuel gauge showing qtr tank and car died on you??

while im driving i suddenly felt the car have no more power therefore i park to the side of the road and it stalled. i try to restart the car it wont start anymore but the fuel indicator showing me i still have 5~6 dot and up to 100+ miles left of gas, i was thinking maybe the gas indicator have problem so i walked to the gas station and bought 1 gallon of gas put it in to the car it start smoothly.

... Let me guess... Were you making a hard long sweeping right turn? Lol

SouthArk370Z 03-06-2014 06:15 AM

It sounds like the shop is talking about the fuel pump. As others have stated the fuel level sensors will not keep the car from starting or running.

Assuming it's a fuel delivery problem, then it's probably a known problem with 370Zs - with the tank level at ~1/4 or less, on a hard right turn the fuel moves away from the pump inlet causing starvation. No need to replace the pump, just keep the level above 1/4.

If you were driving "normally" when it happened, you may have a bad fuel pump.

Chuck33079 03-06-2014 07:01 AM

He claimed in the other thread that he wasn't making a hard right, but who the hell knows. And replacing an OE fuel pump shouldn't cost that much. Hell, a Walbro costs what, $100? Have it installed by a local shop and you're back on the road. Again, we need a clearer description of which part went out, but I'm not holding my breath.
