I've heard this sound myself and wondered if it was strange. I usually listen to the radio and such so i don't notice it all the time. It's very high pitched, but not very loud, and it does not vary with any RPM or radio volume. Its on the right side of the car, haven't pinpointed front or rear.

Can they swap out the ECM for a new one on the lot?

The dealer has no say on a buy back, that is between Roo and Nissan.

Reading another post, I remember thinking it was the fuel pump at one time. I'm assuming we have an in-tank pump, not one in the engine bay, but I'm not sure.

Yes, there are two different high pitched noises. The engine compartment one can generally only be heard when you shut the engine off, and it continues to "whine" for about 2 seconds, then stops. This seems to exist on all 370s. The issue Roo has is totally different. This is an ECM issue and is sporadic as to the number of cars affected. My hearing is still good for my age, and I can tell you a continuous high pitched whine is obnoxious. Let's hope they fix it. If not, I would demand a replacement.

hmmm i think everyone i right when saying you are barking up the wrong tree
from all 3 threads you have posted its seems like fontana nissan has diagnosed the problem and is waiting for an answer from HQ

with that said you have to pick up your car and wait
to be honest i hear the noise once in a while but to me it is not a problem
maybe its mechanical and thats how its supposed to sound
for example i hear the fan and hard drive humming in my computer tower does it mean its broken??

in the 370z's case if everyone hears it maybe its normal
but i dont know im just saying you might blowing this out of proportion

I have this issue also. I have the 7AT and it only happens with the engine running and when driving. When you take your foot off of the gas the noise remains until the car comes to a stop, then the noise stops. It stays off until you step on the gas. It is a constant high freq sound and not too loud, but loud enough to hear without the radio on at least to moderate sound levels. The wheels of the car have to be turning for the noise to occur though. BUT it is definitely an electronic sound, it is not mechanical. 100% sure of that.

Is it the ECM or the ECU?? Are you guys making a typo? In one of the linked threads the original guy that found the problem said it was the ECU not the ECM (I don't know what ECU OR ECM stands for, just that it is some sort of electronic component behind the glove box in the dash). Are we transposing letters here? ECU or ECM?? Let's try and get the facts straight.

ECU = Electronic Control Unit
ECM = I don't know (may be Electronic Control Module )

So I have to pay for a car that I cannot drive and wait who knows how long before Nissan finds a fix? What if that is 6 months from now?

So I tried listening to see if my Z had this noise and it does. It's very high pitched but very low in volume. It's coming from the right side feet area. It is constant whether the car is just sitting at a stop light or driving. When the car is off there is no sound. That being said the only way I can hear this is with the window up and no radio. If I turn the radio anything higher than level 3 on the volume I can't hear the noise at all. With no radio but the windows down I can only hear the noise when at very low speeds or at stand still.

Is it annoying? Yes, but only because now I know it's there. Had this post never been created I probably would never have picked up on it since I usually have my windows down and/or have the radio on to at least volume level 5. So for now I'm not really going to be worrying about but it would be nice to see a resolution of this or at least find out the cause.

My noise goes away if you are 100% stopped. As soon as you give it any gas you can hear it and it stays the same through all RPMs. But if you are at a complete stop it goes away.
