I do not mean to bash Nissan in anyway they have always taken care of me and my Z .
So my car has been making a rattling noise from about 1-2k rpm ,so i took it to nissan that a guy i know told me to go there and they had always treated me good there when he had worked there...
well they got it on a friday at 330 and i called Saturday they said they could not replicate the results .... (lmao right?) .... when i got there i hoped in with a tech nothing........ for all of 1min then boom there was the rattle they took it back, and raised it up and he said oh yeah that's your cats .... hear it ? Me: sure???? i can tell the difference between cats and trans....... sure :/ :wtf2:
Well i walked back to the desk..... and they write up a quote for 500+tax for new cats and labor .... i say ok ill think about it.... went home and talked to a old Nissan manager i knew before he was let go due to Nissan firing all their old staff blah blah .... so he mentions it should be covered under Nissan emission warranty ...... so i take it back the next Friday(they claim they thought they were aftermarket... never touched my exhaust) .. they seem kinda upset and say well we have to re-diagnose it to make sure our 370 tech will be here on Saturday or Monday well .... its now Monday.... called and they said yup cats... 3-5 days free due to warranty :P the z tech did not make it Saturday due to snow .... (cant blame him to much)

so long story short do your homework and if its not the cats and the trans... hey i got 3k miles till that's gone

It will be in the shop for upgrading the break system, meth injection and installing a AFR/boost gauge next week and they are going to check it out then.

I didn't buy the car new and have added a supercharger so I don't think Nissan will cover me.

I got my car used but it is stock. I looked and it has a 8 year 80k parts warranty for emissions. I hear the rattling noise from low rpm but only occasionally. Maybe 1 in 20 tries and only under light acceleration. Would this be covered? I have no check engine light or anything. Am I fine to leave it be?

Is it a manual? If it's the clutch rattling a little it's completely normal.

Nope automatic. I took a peek under the car and the exhaust system is pretty dirty and a little rusty but I guess that's from the crap salt. I got a wash yesterday and didn't hear any rattles today but i might get some again

mine only rattles from 1-2k rmp in park and any gear it gets drowned out over that rpms

parts are in they say ill get a loaner and it will take all day to replace.. dropping car off Tuesday they start on it Wednesday

Dealers make just as much or more on warranty work since they can often do it in less time than the book says it will take.

and the rattle is back but not as bad .. im hoping that its just something they forgot to tighten or if not im gonna lmao if its the flex plate if they ever stop bsin around

well just got my z back from nissan they said its the other cat ,,,, i said i thought you guys replaced them both he said no nissan only can do one at a time if they dont think both are rattling......... i was planing on moving the 3rd but now im moving when the job is done then im taking to nissan of cool springs in nashville to have it looked at to see if it was done right

ok so both cats have been replaced free yay they said they heard a rattle where the y pipe connects.. not covered under warranty he said so done
