Just got thrilled for Z

Hi,

I had number of cars so far; Lexus IS, GS, LS, Benz E350, BMW 335, Audi A8, Chevy Cruze, Toyota 4X4s. and most recently a 5.0 Mustang. Now Nissan got me well and got thrilled for Z while I was shopping for a GT-R :-)

I know there is a major change due for the GT-R so I rolled back from the idea of spending a big bucks on something gonna change in next few months (not sure when)

Now I am thinking to buy a brand new 2014 Z. Is it a good time? or I have to wait too for its major change if its due soon? What do you think guys about the car value depreciation comparing to a Mustang? I just sold my brand new 2011 mustang and I was totally disappointed on how the market is too bad for a used Mustang even with little mileage (9K)

Thank you

Mustangs are everywhere of course they are going to lose a lot of value.

Z's are rare compared to mustangs. Knowing what people have paid lately, I don't think I have lost more than 4 or 5k from my original purchase price. I paid 29K not including TTL over a year ago. I am pretty sure I can get 24 - 25 easy for it. Hard to say when a new design will come out. Probably mid year when they release the new design if they do.

1. It's not a bad time. If you're looking for the latest model with all the newest updates there will never be a good time. There has been talk for the past few years that each next year there will be an all new Z but that never seems to materialise.

2. All modern cars depreciate. IMO The Z has a few things going against it for resale value. Its a 2 seater and its a Nissan. It will hold its value better than an american sports car but not as well as a european one.

If your going to turn around and sell what ever car you buy quickly maybe just look at lease rates for the cars you're looking at, banks factor that in so you won't worry about it.

Sounds like you are never satisfied. If you were shopping for a GTR then you have enough bank to widen your selection. I predict that if you purchase a Z you will sell it in a year and search for something else.

There is no announcement yet on the next changes for the Z, let alone when they'll arrive, so it's probably not worth waiting at this point. If you want a Z, you should pull the trigger. Maximize your happiness now, or you'll end up making the same excuses every year for 10 years. :)

If you buy a used 09-12 in good condition and you keep it nice, it shouldn't drop down a ton very quickly at all. The Z is sweet looking, and more are retired to car heaven every year. Handles well, and has a nice power-to-handling feel.

And with the new Mustang - the old will devalue hugely. Not that Fords hold resale anyway.

I say go for it...the Z is a much cheaper and better value than any of your previous cars. the Z is my 49th car and I put it in my top 5 of all of them.

I say get the Z!

But just remember how angry Herbie was when Jim Douglas brought home that Lamborghini when you go for that GT-R....

There's a short list of cars I'd be looking at if I had GT-R money before looking at the Z. The F-Type and 911 come to mind pretty quickly.

:iagree:

Simply because I'm a bigger fan of the Z's look/exterior design as compared to the GTR. For 100K, it should look like it's 100K. However, if speed is THE variable, the dude abides.

I wish Nissan would have chosen at least a semi-decent finish than the crossword puzzle/spirograph version they let Car and Driver photograph in Germany.

RonRizz 02-11-2014 04:48 PM

I'm getting the Z wrapped to match that!!!!!

This may be crazy, but you could consider getting both? I own a '13 GT-R and a '11 Z Roadster. I sold an '09 Z coupe for the GT-R -- and I love it. It is a monster car.

But I missed the Z a lot. Found a used Z Roadster for a great deal and am so happy to have one again. Both are great cars and are VERY different. It's my third Z -- I really think you will get hooked. If you do decide to go after a used GT-R, do your homework and have it thoroughly checked out by a Nissan dealer. Would also recommend getting a MY '11+.
