After market parts z sell price

If you plan on selling your z, do u guys think that having something as something as a k&n cai and exhaust system on it really add to the value of the car or have the opposite effect from a dealer standpoint and a private sell?

A stock car will always be worth more to a dealer and to most private buyers. Part it out.

Aftermarket parts never really add value and a highly modded vehicle will usually be worth less than a stock one (at least with cars). This is why it's never a good idea to put $$ into a car you don't plan on keeping a long time. The right private buyer might pay more for certain high-end mods, but it's not something to count on.

Motorcycle example: I have a '09 Ducati 848 with around 11k miles. It has Termignoni exhaust ($2000), Ohlins TTX36 monoshock ($1200), Ohlins 25mm fork cartridges ($900), Ohlins steering damper ($450), Dan Kyle linear rear link ($600), Woodcraft rearsets ($350), carbon fiber fenders and key guard parts ($400), CRG mirrors and levers ($250), Rizoma Lux grips ($150), Comp Werkes fender eliminator kit ($120), solo seat cowl ($150), Speedymoto fork and frame sliders ($200), Oberon 29mm clutch slave ($150), Zero Gravity wind screen ($100), and other random crap I can't even remember... That's easily $7k worth of primo goodies, but there's no way in hell I could ever sell my bike for KBB + $7k. In fact I'd probably be lucky to get $8k at this point.

Moral of the story: Don't pour money into anything you ever plan to sell.

I have another question kinda off topic but I do have the typhoon k&n cai. "Not the best I know". But what would be a good catback exhaust that won't brake my bank plus give a better throatier sound and maybe a tiny gain? I love the fi one but it's expensive and I'm sure installation isn't cheap either. I would like better sound and maybe a bit more juice even know I hear exhaust dosent put out a whole lot of hp. Any recomendations?

Buy a used after market exhaust and save hundreds of $$$. If you have the ability to put the car on jack stands, then you can do the install by yourself with a few basic tools.

I'm confused. Are you selling the car? Your first post sounds like you're planning to sell the car, and then you're also considering modding it more?

well i would like to put an exhaust on it and keep it untill the new model z comes out. then sell it for the new one. was hoping for the new z in 2015 but as we all know it doesnt look like that is going to happen untill 2016 now. seriously i wish they would gives us a teaser of what its going to look like and when we can expect it.

kenchan 02-10-2014 11:06 AM

in your case how about just getting the muffler replaced? much easier (and fraction of the cost) to do than doing the whole catback. i saw someone on ebay selling axlebacks for like $250 new. they appear to be faux fujimura's or something. :ugh:
