Honestly, I'm paying for this car, I enjoy it, I think it's comfortable enough, a bit noisy at times (road noise) but bearable... Soooooo... Why not drive it every day? (Granted, I live in Southern CA so weather permits it safely) I wouldn't want to drive something I don't care to be in if I have a much better car at home. And I have done 700+ miles a day in it without problems, sooooo... Yeah... I'll DD it until I have to kick it to start it, or until it gets totaled.

It's funny how the immediate reasoning is the inability to drive more than one person. Some of you guys must really hate having other people in the car with you, or mooches as friends/co-workers.

I bought my Z knowing it would not be a DD. I have several other vehicles That I use for daily things, and a company truck for my work day. I don't feel the least bit bad about the coin I layed out for the Z and not driving it on a daily basis. Its there when I want it. My other rides are all older, but in good shape with low miles (except the subaru outback with 225k). I'm the type that has never sold a car, ever. I drive 'em till they die, or are not worth fixing anymore, and they go to scrap, or hand them down to our 5 children. A bit of irony..My brother is a car salesman!

You guys crack me up. As much as most of you say you are going to keep your car forever, you aren't. Just be honest with yourself. Most of you are young enough where your lives will be in different places in as little as 5 or 10 years from now. You'll have wives, kids and need to haul **** for the house. Some of you will get stuck driving minivans. Trust me, to some, it's happening. You'll need practical or you'll need enough money to afford practical and a toy. You'll also want a three car garage or storage for your toy that you are keeping forever. You don't want that valuable toy sitting in the rain or snow you know. That's expensive so you better make plenty of money and not all of you will. Sorry, that's also a fact.
Cars also age. It's one thing to own a 1-5 year old car and think it's going to be "fresh" like that forever. It's entirely another thing to actually own a 15-20 year old car. Also, for those not going the kid-wife-practical route, In the future, some new great model will be out that you have to have and you'll look at your Z as a nice down payment and a hassle to own 2 toys, one now aging. There may be one or two of you to actually keep it. The guy with the 280 for 20+ I might believe. The rest of you, nope. Me? I learned that cars have no souls. I used to get attached. Now, out with the old and in with the new. Next up, New Corvette. Last edited by Ubetit; 02-08-2014 at 09:06 AM. |

See, in my opinion it's the later years of car ownership that become really enjoyable. It's paid off so you can afford to mod the **** out of it. You've worked on it so much that you know how to fix anything, and it becomes easy to take care of any problems that pop up since you've done everything a couple of times before.

Not to mention that, by that point, you've got a daily driver so if a project runs long, you don't have to worry. You just take your time. Now, a lot of guys don't enjoy the DIY stuff. They'll have a cost issue down the line at 100k+miles when there's always something to work on.

Everyone is different. Some can afford to own multiple cars and others cannot. A lot of people here already have families + their toy(s) + their practical car. Whether you have to sell for a practical family car or trade because you don't have money for a down payment, it's all about compromise and what's important/realistic for you. In my opinion, the key behind the ability to enjoy all this is proper financial planning. |

I'm keeping mine forever. I love my Z more and more every day. I never understood how people could become bored with their cars so quickly.

I plan on having mine no less than 10 years. I knew when I had purchased my 350, that I wouldn't own it for more than 5 years. I sold it shortly after 2.5 years and the original reason for selling was to get into a roomier car. Turns out the 370 was a bit roomier

I'm averaging about 8,000 miles a year (~16,200 on the odometer now) so we will see what happens. I'm not going to say that I will keep it forever but I might keep it for a while.

I never thought I'd sell my 370 but did in Nov. 2012. I loved the car, babied it...but thought using it as a weekend driver was a waste. I saw one on the 405 N last weekend, slammed with some nice Volks...and thought "I gotta get another one." I had an FD3S RX-7 and thought I'd never sell it, but that car was a perpetual project. I still want an FD. But if I do get either an FD or Z34...it's gonna be with a V8 swap Either a Hinson swapped FD...or an LS6 swapped 370. 370V for 370Vette!
