Adding oil cooler problem on 2014

Finally got around to installing my Z1 Motorsports/Setrab 34 row oil cooler, and guess what, it won't work on my 2014. Seems my car has an extra collar like thing on the side of the oil pan where the filter attaches. This takes up about two inches and make it impossible to get a wrench on the filter to loosen or tighten. Looking at pics in the DIY oil change section, and this part is definitely not present on earlier models. Is this plumbing for and extra cooler that earlier models don't have? This blows!

I got a cooler on my 2012 with the factory cooler. Granted it was a PITA and you don't arrange the lines the same as you would a pre factory oil cooler Z.

subed. Don't have any answers OP but facing the same thing on my '13. Wish I could just take off the lame little cooler and put on a 34 row. Good luck on the project.

With my 2009 Z, and having lived through previous threads about oil coolers, this is a strange turn of events. I wish you luck.

You already have an oil cooler. Are you tracking this car and hitting limp mode?

If I'm understanding correctly, I think the OP's saying there won't be enough room to get a wrench on the end of the filter with both the factory and Z1 sandwich plates installed. It's going to be tight, but should fit. You won't be able to use a wrench, but the filter should only be hand tight anyways.

that is the stock oil cooler . couldnt you just unbolt that one and cap off the antifreeze lines and put the thermostatic sandwich plate in its place for the new cooler?

Z1 did say that is an option, just not sure what will be there if I remove the cooler, might need extra parts and could get in over my head for DIY.

No offense, but this is a bad idea.

You just need to use a shorter filter. This came up with some friends in Houston.

I'll ask around and get the filter number.

The factory size will fit.

If you value a warranty then do NOT touch the stock oil cooler. Don't mess with it. Don't try to bypass it. Unless of course you bought a brand new car to beat the crap out of at a track.

The oil filter size you need is the HP-2008. I used that when I put my sandwich plate on my stock cooler and it fit just fine.

So this doesn't turn into another stupid debate over whether you need an extra oil cooler or not, feel free to visit other threads here relating to an aftermarket cooler on top of the stock cooler. You will see plenty of butt-hurt opinions and the like. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Bottom line. If you don't track it, don't "NEED" it. But my personal opinion is still quite different from this and I'll leave that out for now. Someone might get their feelings hurt.

Good luck to ya!
