You will be buying a used car. Probably from a non enthusiast who could have deferred maintenance etc and some of the 09's had issues listed by others here. No purchase without some records and a thorough inspection then test drive. An extended warranty or powertrain coverage would be a must for any used performance vehicle.

My 09 is great! Only issue in mine is I have Navigation and the damn headunit on that is different than any other model and the ******* knobs wont turn right. You turn it up, It turns down, no matter how long you turn it. Then you try to turn down and it might go down or up. Im guessing the headunit will be a grand so im sketch about replacing it uggh. Still, that's only a very small amount of cars with that problem, ive heard others with same issue.

As a general rule, when buying a used car, you want the latest model year and lowest wear you can find/afford.
If that turns out to be a '09, just be sure to do your research on potential issues.

I have an 09 (purchased new) w/manual transmission. The engine was replaced at 33,000, due to excessive oil use(warranty covered the cost), steering wheel lock replaced (recalled issued) & Clutch Slave Cylinder/Clutch Master Cylinder replaced at 38,000 mi. On 4/13/13, Service Bulletin NTB13-026A was issued. My repair cost was $1,200.00. The same problem re-occurred at 45,000 miles-dealer stated they couldn't find anything wrong....yesterday Clutch Slave Cylinder is out again (est cost $1,200.00).
If you are considering the 370, check oil, with each fill up, buy an automatic trans, or be prepared to randomly spend $1,000 & up for Clutch Slave Cylinders/Master Cylinders on a routine bases, as this has been an issue since 05 & the 350z. Purchase extended warranty if buying. Just my experiences....do not race my car, or drive erratic or aggressive. Current mileage is approx. 53,000 miles. |

And check the oil every fill up regardless of what year, make or model car you buy.

I bought my 09 Jan last year with 37000 mi. A week later short block replaced because of rod knock. No cost to me due to power train warranty and I just bought car 1 week before. In September valve cover gaskets leaking and was replaced free because still under warranty from short block job they did. They also did tsb for steering lock at time but I wished they wouldn't because I already had wire cut bypass of it. Im at almost 50,000 mi today and no other issues.
I did get extended warranty when I purchased though in case any major problems down road. Probably wouldn't have if I got a used sentra but on sports car......

Let's see... since I got my '09 (Touring 7AT) back in late-'09 the front wheels were replaced because of blemishes to the finish, hatch "button" springs replaced because hatch was not opening correctly, ESCL replaced (I had already pulled the fuse but figured I'd get the newest rev), and a rattle in the left door fixed. Nothing I would consider major and all fixed under warranty. I am much more impressed with the reliability of the car than I am with the Nissan service shops in my area (not filling battery after I requested them to do so (they even tried to tell me it was a no-maintenance battery smh), trying to adjust hatch latch after I told them about the spring TSB, not using Nissan ester oil when I requested and paid for it, broke the hood prop retainer and didn't tell me, &c).

my fav repair on my 09 was the 25-day dealer adventure where they tore apart the entire dash to figure out what module was making the high pitched ECU whine. Told the dealer "it's the ECU". Got to ride around in a bomb *** Chrysler 300 for close to a month while they "diagnosed the issue". Ended up being... the ECU. Finally replaced the part.
this was before the short block change that required four visits to establish that 1.5 quarts magically disappearing every 1k miles was probably the engine burning oil. one black exhaust tip and the other one being spotless was a hint. followed that up with a vvel sensor issue after the block replacement causing irregular idle and engine stuttering. had major hesitation from what may have been the brake sensor switch thing. clutch slave replaced under goodwill during the short block swap. pulled the steering lock fuse before it had a chance to die. good times in the 09, would recommend again it's funny... by the time Nissan fixes the issues, they discontinue the car. the 08 350z was perfect. I'm sure the '14 is going to be a banner year before whatever it is comes out in (hopefully) 12-14 months. BUT HEY IM NOT BITTER OR ANYTHING. |
