Default Factory Back up camera

Nissan is making a back up camera for the 370. It will be a factory acessory as well as an after purchase install as well. Nissan is hoping to release these with the 2010 Z. They will also work for all Z models, not just touring with Nav!!!!

If they did Nissan is probably using the same thing as an Aftermarket re-fit by them in a kit form. Good idea by them for us. I just hope that the cost to us is affordable.

The cost will be affordable, it will be less expensive then trying to fit a G37 kit on a Navi Z. The good thing it's going to be for all Z's! I am guessing a Mirror with a t.v. screen built in....just a guess. They have them for the altima/rouge already. It's pretty cool, looks like a normal review mirror until you put it into reverse then a screen pops up in the right corner.

Default Update - Backup Camera Kit Installation

Here is the kit:

japanparts.com : PARTS DATABASE

After getting help in translating the manuals since they were in Japanese and harness pin functions the Nissan dealership tech figured out the pin functions he was provided by japanparts were almost completely backwards. So he made his own harness but still could not get the unit to display a picture.

This is a very simple explanation but I don't see the need to go into all the details of what was tried, all the tech assistance provided from the Nissan North American tech line to the dealership tech., help from the Infinity techs., etc.

Here is the bottom line is...............Don't buy this kit. It will not work. The wiring harness does not match the pins on the back of the Nav. BTW any parts sold by japanparts.com do not have a money back guarantee if used on 370Z's made for the American market. This is clearly stated on their web site. I took a chance and lost some bucks. but the challenge is part of the fun.

Hopefully the announced August release by Nissan of that backup cam using the review mirror will become reality.

Hmmmm. I never thought about that. Makes sense only way to do it if it going to work for the non-nav Z's because putting just a screen on the dash would be tacky.

That would mean a different set up for video running from the rear if they installed this on the nav z's or it is wireless maybe.

Either way it is all Win

Ouch! I think I'd be inclined to throw a few more bucks down and upgrade my base to a nice Kenwood touch screen HU with a $40 back-up camera installed..
