Update - Backup Camera Kit Installation
2 Attachment(s)
Here is the kit:
japanparts.com : PARTS DATABASE After getting help in translating the manuals since they were in Japanese and harness pin functions the Nissan dealership tech figured out the pin functions he was provided by japanparts were almost completely backwards. So he made his own harness but still could not get the unit to display a picture. This is a very simple explanation but I don't see the need to go into all the details of what was tried, all the tech assistance provided from the Nissan North American tech line to the dealership tech., help from the Infinity techs., etc. |
I guess to update this thread, Nissan states the OEM add on back up camera will be out in Aug. 2010.

They won't release that info, just that it's coming soon!

awesome. Make a new thread with lots of stars and exclamation points once they release it! i want one
|
I just bought my 370Z in March and one of my setbacks to seal the deal to purchase was the poor visibility through the back window. The dealership said Nissan did not have a backing camera for the Z's, but they found a local company that they deal with that could install an after factory one. It's a rear view mirror that has a screen pop up when you engage reverse. It also has bluetooth with a navi and handsfree for my cell. It was $900 and I was going to nix buying the car because the poor visibility bothered me and I didn't want to pay $900, but then they threw it in at no cost! Guess they really wanted to move that 09 Z!
In all actuality, I don't even use the camera much, but it does have a wide view of rear visibility and I am glad I have it for situations when I do need it. |
Any good updates bout this, such as link to buy it?
|
i have been waiting sssoo long, good to hear there might finally be an option from nissan direct. i also looked at all the aftermarket options, didn't like them. i guess untill aug! :-)
|
I saw the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost had corner cameras as well - I wonder if extra cameras could be mounted with switching for backing out of parking spots,
|
This is one mod I want to do. I just hope they don't try to fleece us for this add on, when the G37's have them as part of the nav kit.
|
I hope it works with the Australian 09 model. The only time I need it is when pulling out of an angle park, can't see cars coming up the road without it.
|
better than a camera, pay the nearest person 2 dollars to help guide you out of your tight spot.
Do this 250 times and you'll still not have paid as much as the camera will wind up costing you to install |
The problem is paying the nearest person to ride around in the back - that will cost more than $2!
|
I can't see there being a standard mod to all the cars as some have Navi and others don't. Plus the wiring harnesses are different for the 09 and 10 models....
Other than that I am definitely first in line for the mod when it comes to my dealer! |

The 09's should be able to take the Infiniti systems too. They are the same navi heads. The 2010's will need this new system for sure.

Here is the bottom line is...............Don't buy this kit. It will not work. The wiring harness does not match the pins on the back of the Nav. BTW any parts sold by japanparts.com do not have a money back guarantee if used on 370Z's made for the American market. This is clearly stated on their web site. I took a chance and lost some bucks.:eek::eek: but the challenge is part of the fun. Hopefully the announced August release by Nissan of that backup cam using the review mirror will become reality. |
Hopefully it will be a two type system, one kind for the Navi heads and one kind for a replacement mirror. The replacement mirror version will be very pricey compared to a camera and harness system to plug into the Navi Head.
This way everyone could still use the system one way or the other! |
was looking around the local Nissan dealer getting an oil change, and just for the heel of it i looket at a 2010 maxima with navi. it looks the same as my 2010 370z, i wounder if anyone has tried to put that in a 370z, maybe a direct connection as with mine there seems to be space for it in the back of the passanger seat under the foam.
|
^^ they are the exact same units, the problem isnt getting them, its paying the price for it. your looking at 1000+ dollars for the unit.
you could just get the camera and camera control unit from the maxima and make it work, the problem now, is you need to fab a wiring harness. its lose-lose, the kit that antbear had is heading my way, i'll try to make it work, because if it does, this is the only "win" situation other than buying an aftermarket control unit to plug in the nav. |
We really need a forum Dealer to dig into this at Nissan HQ!
|
Lou! Where you at?
|
bad news,
do NOT BUY THE KIT FROM JAPANPARTS.COM the kit is aftermarket and far far far from OEM. 90% of the features are missing from the unit. its the most basic type of unit which activates the camera in reverse, (note, i said camera, not Nav) and nothing more. you will still have to manually switch to Aux Input to see the camera. |
Just saw this article recently.
"The Nissan 370Z Coupe, Nissan 370Z Coupe Touring and NISMO 370Z will receive a new exterior color of Gun Metallic and the addition of a RearView Monitor to the 370Z Touring’s optional Navigation Package. The Nissan 370Z Roadster receives minor touches since its 2010 introduction. A new paint color of Gun Metallic is accompanied by an available full-size spare tire." Boston Nissan Dealer Clay Nissan of Norwood Announces First Half of 2011 Nissan Lineup Does this mean you have to have a Navi to do it? Touring model only? I've been waiting to the OEM version for the NISMO. But if its not available for the NISMO, I may just get the car already and put in an aftermarket setup. What do you think, Fusz? |

Good news all-around |
Woot!!!!!
yet another shade of gray!!! Tards... |
Any updates on the factory camera kit??
|
Nissan USA were as helpful as ever:
Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. with your email inquiry. According to both web sites, Nissan/Infiniti News Room and Nissan USA, no new updates has been made to indicate when a back-up camera feature will be available for the Nissan 370Z. However we do advise that you visit both web sites periodically for new updates. |

So when will we know if the 2011 rearview camera will work on a 2010?
|
Nissan is hoping to release these with the 2010 Z.
2010 or 2011? I just bought a 2011 Frontier so know the 2011 models are now being released and the 2010 build year is history. |

In regards to your original question, I suppose you could try to get a hold of a service manual for any Nissan vehicle that currently has a back-up cam setup and see how the system is hooked up to the car. If the setup has connections that your Z doesn't have, then u may be out of luck. My guess is that they will be backwards compatible, but it may not be worth the extra $$$ or hassle to use an OEM system. Prob better off buying an aftermarket system. Martin |
