370Z: A Future Classic?

I'm mad that any car after I think 85 will not qualify for classic plates in the future...I think I'll want some of the cars I drove in high school

I'm mad that any car after I think 85 will not qualify for classic plates in the future...I think I'll want some of the cars I drove in high school along with my z when I'm 50 or so...just don't understand why can't we have classics plates in our generation..even though it's years away....but yeah the z will be a classic

Weird list, but I like the variety. I don't quite get the Fiesta, but I guess if it is limited in production then it could be a classic someday.

My thinking is that it is almost as good as those hot cars from time past - Escort, Cosworth-engineered vehicles, etc.

Remember, this list isn't about best - it's about something that leaves a mark and is desirable due to some character.

I don't think so because they've made so many over the years. I know it's not a lot compared to the 350Z or a Corolla, Camry etc. but in relation to let's say a

MKIV Supra (~11k from 93-98. Includes Base and TT variants)
3000GT VR-4 (~15k from 91-99)
FD RX-7 (~14k from 93-95)

I think there's around 40k total 370Z's out there somewhere so far? So we have a long way to go til we reach classic (cult) status.

EDIT - Just saw the article singles out the Nismo...so in that case, then disregard all above ^^^^. Nismo yes, will probably be classic.

these prices are way off

FD RX-7s will sell for a good 9k at most and the 3000GT VR4 is a good $5000 car

the 3000GT VR4 never became a cult classic like the GSX Eclipse did

Um, he was referencing the # of units produced versus the 370Z.

I think of that list, only the F-type and the Alfa will be future classics.

I don't think it's necessarily just the numbers that makes a classic (though I think limited supply obviously helps). For example, the reason why the Supra and the RX-7 are classics are because of their unique idiosyncrasies coupled with a light/heavy haze of nostalgia. The Supra is renowned for being able to handle a ton of power right out of the box and having a very clean, handsome design. The RX-7 has a timeless design (seriously, it'll look good even 20 years from now), and a Wankel rotary engine. These two cars also arrived during the 90s Japanese sports car golden era. All things considered, the 370Z isn't really that distinctive in the larger picture.

It's OK. I agree with the GSX. Man....I wanted that to be my first car so bad, but couldn't justify the price tag. People were still asking $10-14k for one back in 2008 when I was car shopping back then. Maybe I'll get lucky and find one for cheap now.

once Nissan stops making the VQ6 or the Z altogether, which rumours have it they are bringing the Datsun back and cutting the Z line. Then 100% classic over night. If not....A classic to the owners

The Datsun name is going to be an entry level (think 3rd world countries) and try to enter into new markets. The Z is an unknown with the next model but has been stated that the essence of the Z will live on for many years after the z34.

I think the 350Z is more likely to be a future classic than the 370Z Nismo.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Z but the 350 has so much more impact (IMO) on the sports car community since its launch 12+ years ago. It was radically different than the Z32 in terms of styling and performance.
