I have a blackvue 400hd in my 370, works well, it's more of a witness cam than a track day one but its a good fit and forget option.

There is a new blackvue with a rear facing add on now that looks good

I specifically asked you about that one. You never told me one reason why yours was better than that one. They're the same price. What does yours have that's better?

yah, i want one facing aft... this might work. i want one that overwrites and turns on/off on its own so that i dont have to mess with it each time i get in my Z. :)

since i have a go pro I'm looking for an inexpensive means of having front/rear facing cameras

my intentions are to have the go pro out back

and make a mod to one of the blank outs by the fangs for a permanent camera mount that turns it self on.

something i did with my bike (see between the 5 and 9 )

https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...515_3427_n.jpg

with a quick disconnect means for easy access to the sd card. ill handle the editing on the computer.

this seems to be the easiest route, to get some data included into the videos

I'm telling ya, you can get all that for $50. Mine was good enough to use in an accident investigation.

Even better, a lengthy review:

I found an app for my Android phone called Auto Guard Blackbox and it does most of the things that I want to do (however, no rear facing camera). It will record with GPS and MPH overlay, will archive the video if a collision is detected and the video is pretty stable for recording from a cell phone.

Check it out...

Is there a camera that works while parked/car is off? Just wondering...

There are cameras with motions sensing; the camera I have is on as long as the lighter outlet is hot. It a actually has a few minutes delay before it turns off just in case of an accident. There are some motion detection settings on it, but I'm not sure if it works as is or needs something additional.

Right, but GoPro is a whole different ball game. What I have is just for security and accidents. You'd not use it for serious videography.

And filming Siberian meteors.

actually it would work well for shenanigans , I'm going to look for one that has a hd rear camera too. nice you can flip it and use it as a back up camera too:tup:

6MT-Z34 01-07-2014 03:23 PM

I know the Blackvue DR500GW is good as well and much smaller (discrete) I want to use this for both security reasons and especially when I take my car to the dealership or other place for maintenance or whatever to make sure they don't drive my car in an abusive manner but I would like it to turn on so it can stay on and not be able to turn off (??) idk if that is possible since the Blackvue DR500GW has an ON/OFF button and the guys from the dealership can shut it off once they get inside the car

The ebay one has a screen in it that is handy but for my purposes, not essential and it would not work for the use I need.

H2O_Doc 01-07-2014 04:09 PM

Mine sits in front of the rear view mirror. No one has ever noticed it.

Go to amazon and look at the reviews on most of the dash cameras from $50- $200 , most are junk and just don't work properly or you can't view or download the videos when you need them.

Mine will be used for accident proof and tickets, it sucks but you really need one in your car to protect your legal rights today.

I bought a $100 from pep boys and returned it the next day, didn't work and I also went and tried the go pro hero 3 , but it costs to much and its not that practical and I returned it.

Best deal on the market is the JVC action cam, it will operate in 740 dpi in loop mode and can be charged by a cigarette lighter usb charger in this mode, all you need extra is a good mount and the memory card. Also it comes with a built in lcd screen that other cameras charge extra for.

Note make sure what ever action cam you get that it has loop mode.

Best buy only $199

There's also some apps for phones that do the same thing. Worth checking out at least. Here's one for android phones: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...m.dailyroads.v

I have the blackvue DR500GW-HD and its a real good quality dash cam. I got it with their magic box pro system so i can leave it on even when the car is off and it auto shuts off if the voltage drops or the set timer has exceeded. real high quality videos and it has GPS for location and speed, motion activation for parking mode, and some other cool features. I can also access videos and files through the SD card or through their phone app. The phone app can also do live feed within 10 meters.
I hooked mine up on a switch so I can turn it on or off as i please. The switch is the far right one.
