Dealer Over Inflated Tires
So I just had my first oil change two weeks ago.
Today decided to check the tire pressure in case it needed a top off. Tires were cold, ambient temps in the low 70's, and boy was I surprised at these results: One rear tire was @47psi!, the other was 46! Both fronts were @45. I scratched my head and grabbed a second Guage to rule out the equipment from a bad read, but they both gave the same results. Shocking if you ask me, can't belive I've been driving on them like this for two weeks... ... Bleed those suckers, geez. Anyone else have their dealer do this? :eekdance: |
What a bunch of dummies.
|
Dude mine were at 60 psi when I bought the car.. i deflated to 38 psi in the lot but if I didn't over analyze that and the spring clips that come on the nismo front springs would have been on as well.
|
Every time I go to the dealer for something, they change the psi in my tires. I have them set to Nissan specs and they keep adding more by 2psi ea time. I finally had to make a dash placard that says "do not adjust tire pressure" to go with my "do not wash" one.
|
Picked up my new Z on the 1st and all tires were set at 42 psi cold. Reduced all 4 to 34 psi and ride quality improved a bit. Dealer prep seems to miss that a lot. I have heard that they deliberately over inflate from the factory to avoid any possible flat spots while in transit...any truth to that?
|
They inflated to max tire pressure. Probably thought that was what you're supposed to inflate to. They didn't read the door sticker. I used to do this when I was 8 on my bicycle. One day after filling, I was in the house and heard a bomb go off, went outside and my tires exploded. You learn real quick what max tire pressure means.

Was at 55 when I bought my car.

Thanks to all for posting this information. I would never have thought to check tire pressure on a new car, for example when test driving it or taking delivery. And, now it makes sense to check after oil changes too.
Thanks again. |
Dealerships charge us an arm and a leg, but they can't even get the tire pressure right? That dealer should be ashamed :shakes head:. I had a dealer in Tampa improperly install OEM side mouldings on my Nismo Frontier a few years ago. They were honest enough to admit the work was unacceptable, gave me replacement parts and a complete refund, but they already wasted my time and pissed me off.

Tires on all cars are purposely overinflated from the factory for a couple of reasons. The dealers are paid to adjust the inflation pressure by Nissan when the car is delivered (dealers are independently owned and operated). It is part of their predelivery inspection (PDI). Most dealers don't do it. They just take the money Nissan pays them for the work and run......
I have never taken delivery of a Nissan or Infiniti that had the tires properly inflated.:shakes head: |
Today is 2 months I have owned my 2014 370Z. I got on the forum, and saw this thread. Read all the replies, so went out side, and checked my tire pressure. For the past 2 months I've been driving with 40psi in the front and 42psi in the rear. I am not happy right now :( . Im taking her in for her first oil change on wednesday, and will put placards as ShutokuZ did

I want too, but I bought extended warranty. I dont want it to void my warranty. Especially when it comes with my oil bc here in cali it gets hot at times.

I would bypass going to Nissan for work due to their incompetence for easy things, but I too have the gold plus maint plan. I didn't pay for it however.
|
^^ The point is, you're paying for full service and shouldn't have to redo their work. Will you drain the oil if you realized it was over-filled? I'm not saying have the dealer drain the air out of the tires, but something that simple should've been caught by the dealership.

Here is some good advice for you. Get an alignment A.S.A.P. My tires were feathered to hell after 20k. Really watch your tire pressures and you can get good mileage out of your tires. I normally run 30r and 31f.
|
I get what you're saying. The oil I can do myself at my shop. They are free for 3 months lol

I get the tire pressure light when they get to around 31-30 psi |
i like my tires set at 35-37psi cold.
|
I got the car this past August, delivered, the PSI was correct @35. I've been maintaining 35.5 as my top off, and haven't had the sensor triggered for any amount, under or over.
I was just surprised that after my first oil change, is when they actually over inflated. There just must a be a few knuckle heads working there. Its hard to turn away from my dealer though: Free car washes with no limits, $39.99 full synthetic Mobile 1 oil changes, lifetime engine & transmission warranty. I can deal with over inflating here and there, will just check it myself when I get the car back each time. |
This is a commend pratice with dealerships. When ever I take my wife's car or when my own is being serviced I always tell them "Don't worrie about the tire pressure, I will take care of it"!!

Just out of curiousity OP. What kind of tire gauge are you using?
|
nothing wrong with 40 psi cold or hot. 60 psi is a different story though

I actually prefer 40 on the front and 36 in the rear. |
I thought stock 19" on the 370z r 65psi ?? Doesn't it say that on your door?? 20" should have 32-35 psi. I would double check your door for proper specs on 19"

Better than having them under-inflated.

Never trust dealership. Vast majority of the people that works there have no clues on what they're doing.

I double checked with your off the shelf needle dial, same results (which is nice to know they are giving me the same info). |
