Glad I didn't go hard

I picked up a 2013 Roadster ST a month ago and had to take it in to have the seatbelt fixed. They were nice enough to stick me in a 2014 370z touring and let me say........what a difference.
It's loud inside... noticeably louder than the convert.
Factory Bose is not the best but factory nissan is a joke
The difference in packages is also amazing. You really don't realize how much you use the power options, bluetooth, heated seats, etc.. until there gone. .lol

Im thankful they put me in a Z, but I miss my baby. ..

bad karma on your way. :gtfo2:

RoadsterST 12-13-2013 01:26 PM

Haha, it wouldn't be the first time. I'll just drop the top and give Karma a ride!!!

RoadsterST 12-13-2013 01:27 PM

Post was more for someone who may be trying to decide between the two. Point is, buy as much as you can afford so you don't regret it later.

RoadsterST 12-13-2013 01:29 PM

If they would had a sport touring hard top 6m I guarantee I would have been sitting in it instead of the conv..

You so lucky. Had 2 Nissan cars now and everytime I go to the dealer, they put me in a Versa!

This is my 4th from Texas Nissan in Grapevine. I pretty much requested something nice considering the last time I got a loaner from them it overheated in the parting lot on the way out...lol. cant expect much from an 89 Cadillac....

Heated seats are standard on the touring trim...

Also, the roadster might exhibit different frequencies of interior noise, but instrumented tests suggest the roadster is louder inside than the coupe.

Car & Driver tested the coupe at 72 dB @ 70 mph and the roadster at 74 dB @ 70 mph*.

*Insert requisite caveat about different road surfaces and decibel measurement issues

kenchan 12-13-2013 02:39 PM

and prior loss of hearing due to vert-motoring

Thought so also but this one is listed as touring and it is as base as you can get. I think its mislabeled because it has rays, which would be sport, not touring

Dealership shenanigans? Never!

kittens 12-13-2013 03:05 PM

You can get both sport and touring

Yup, thats what I have personally. This loaner though is listed as touring but is missing navi and heated seats. I think its supposed to be a sport.
Definite dealer tricks

2 db is very minimal difference. What I notice is the hollow sound coming from the trunk. Kinda like if you sit in front of a barrel. I can hear a car tires coming up from behind before they get close. Its just an echo. I bet if it had the cargo cover installed it would seem quieter.
Definitely not bashing the hard top. I actually like the look better than the soft when the tops up, but they dropped the top and I was sold..

Elan 12-13-2013 04:45 PM

Well at least the hard top looks better. :stirthepot:

You're right on both counts, although the average person can detect volume changes down to 1 dB increments. The open trunk area seems to be the main noise culprit in the coupe.

UNKNOWN_370 12-13-2013 04:51 PM

I came from a loaded G37s with twice the luxuries as a Z and a banging Bose system u can't get with Nissan. I dropped down to a base/sport. Dropped in an aftermarket stereo. No need for heated seats as the Z gets toasty very fast. I bought what counts and have no regrets. Don't like
Verts in general. Been ahead of the luxury game and had base/sport. I'm happy with what I have. What counts to me is performance. Not the trinket extras. I want lux I'll buy a luxury car again.

RoadsterST 12-13-2013 04:59 PM

Absolutly couldn't agree more, but I picked up this loaded vert for the same as a 2014 base sport. Couldnt pass up the extras and the performance is the same.

RoadsterST 12-13-2013 05:03 PM

Guys don't get your panties in a bunch. . Not saying anything other than I'm glad I went with the vert. now that I have this HT loaner to compare. Im not saying better than anyone, just happy with my choice. ..

ElVee 12-13-2013 05:23 PM

Was going to ask about it. Yeah, the cargo cover being closed does actually help. But still, something loose in that loaner back end?

RoadsterST 12-13-2013 05:23 PM

No its just open.

a coupe is louder than a vert...??

btw, you must have a base vert then... vert with touring comes with all the goodies too PLUS the heating/cooling seat...

your vert don't have that??

RoadsterST 12-13-2013 06:03 PM

My vert has everything, comparison is against the sport hardtop I have as a loaner.

Bking 12-13-2013 06:39 PM

This thread is a complete bash against hard tops, which is the majority of this forum. Also, it is no surprise that full optioned models are always better than stock base models, at least in terms of technology. Is this thread just for you to "brag" about having a full optioned Z roadster, and that you think it's better than all other Z models?

I think the OP is just saying the difference on equipment...

can't say one Z is better than another Z because of equipping with different package...

because they both Z... :icon17:

TerribleONE 12-13-2013 06:53 PM

I always go hard.. :ugh2:

Fountainhead 12-13-2013 06:56 PM

I love convertibles, but you can't lock 'em, they just cut through the top and open them that way. So to save the top just leave them unlocked :O

No dork. The initial thread was an observation on the sense that the roadster, to me seems quieter than the HT. And no **** it has more options, thats what I paid for. Simply stating that I missed my options and for the price of a 2014 HT sport it should have more options.. read into it what you want..

alcheng 12-14-2013 01:42 AM

so you are saying you like the options/package/equipments on your fully loaded roadster...?

I bet you did mislead many.. many.. people here thinking you are bashing the coupe.... :bowrofl:

well, you pay for what you get, thus of cause a fully loaded feels much better than a base... :bowrofl:

but saying the roadster is quieter than the coupe....

:confused::ugh2::wtf2:

Means I was grateful that the dealership put me in A Z as a loaner but hey, it seems louder in here

Means that I kept hearing noises behind me that I wasn't used to hearing in my Z because the vert has a wall behind the driver and the coupe had the open area of the trunk. To override the noise of the trunk I cranked up the factory Nissan radio and it made me appreciate the Bose, even though the Bose dose not sound that great in mine either. ...

I picked up the loaner and it was 40* outside so I went to turn on the seat heater, nope. Couldn't reach the peddles and reached for the power seat switch, nope.. It made me miss my options that I had taken for granted..

SO

No where in any of that do I bash anything. No where in there did I say the vert was better than the coupe. No where in that did I say mine is better than yours.

I'm not here to make enemies, I'm here to hang out with people that share my same love of the freakin Z, vert or coupe it doesn't matter. . Do I love my car, dam right I do, but there are many on this forum that I would love to have as well. I was lucky enough to fall into a loaded vert for the same price as a base coupe and I took it. That makes me lucky, not better, and dam sure not a basher of any. ..

RoadsterST 12-14-2013 05:55 AM

Now let's go drive!!

RoadsterST 12-14-2013 06:06 AM

You are lucky, I had to settle for a left over 2011 base that I purchased Oct 2012. Mine does have the Sport pkg and rear camera. I added a Kenwood and upgraded the speakers along with dynamat in the doors and trunk.

Wish I could afford a loaded Roadster ST.

b15 12-14-2013 07:28 AM

I never understood why Nissan didn't give the touring coupe cooled seats like the Roadster. Ill take that over the heated seats since my Z isn't driven in the winter anyhow.

As far as noise difference, it's due to the hatch vs trunk on the vert. Hatch creates this megaphone effect.

Yea looking back, I should have skipped the Bose.. upgrades are difficult and expensive..

XxACExX 12-14-2013 09:59 AM

A nismo and a fully loaded convertible z are basically the same price brand new and to me it was all about personal preference thats why i went hard and im loving it. I really like the convertible but with the top up it appears there is no streamlined slant to the roof like hard top. I love the roof slant on hard, from the side it looks more aerodynamic.

Could not agree more. It took 3 hours to finally decide on the vert. They had it next to the loaner HT im in now.
I found a rear spoiler for the vert that really compliments the body line and changes the overall look with the top up. I definitely love the HT look compared to the vert, but like I said, it was way too good of a deal to pass on.
