That's why I'm harping on driver education. I'd have been thrilled had I recieved something like a 370 when I was 17. I'd also most likely be dead. Unfortunately teens make bad decisions when driving, and in a fast car that can get you killed.

I still think it's irresponsible for parents to buy teenagers fast, expensive vehicles. Don needs to be the exception, not the rule. Drive like a responsible adult, learn to control the vehicle and for God's sake keep the car nice. You got a $30k car at 16. Take good care of it.

I live right near FGCU and there is a young man with a GTR in the apartments my son lives in. My son has seen him passed out in it a few times. I can't imagine why a parent would give their kid a rocket and send them of to go party at collage!

Jesus. I bought my first new car my freshman year in college. It was a $19k 2 door Explorer with power windows. I thought that was over the top. I can't imagine having a $100k car at 18-21.

Yeah, I work at the University here and there's a kid in a white GTR I've seen around a few times. I've also seen plenty of Porsches and other luxury cars.

I would have killed myself with a car like that at that age!

Just because someone is young and has a nice car doesn't mean their parent's bought it for them. I busted my *** to afford my 370z at my current age of 19. I bought myself a Camry (7k down, finance 7k) when I was 18. I saved up for a couple years for that 7k down payment.

After purchasing my first car I saved up all my money that I earned (50hours a week at work and being a full time student was ridiculous to say the least) and in 8months I completely paid off the Camry. After paying off my Camry I used it as a down payment for my 370, currently my payments are $200 a month and my insurance is $200 fully covered.

I'm privileged enough where the only bills I have in my life are for my car. I have a full scholarship at school and I'm still at my parents house, though I'm now saving up some money to rent out a place with a couple friends later next year.

You are not giving your parents credit where credit is due. The only reason you were able to save that money is because you are living rent free in your parents place. An expensive vehicle should make its way into your life when you have reasonably established yourself and are able to live independently of others.

At the car meets at my university there are kids with McLarens and Bentleys so I couldn't care less if a 17 year old has a 370Z.

People who work for their car, even if its old or junk, enjoy it more and miss it more when its gone than a person who just got a fancy or expensive car from their parents.

I agree (hence why I said that I was privelaged in my previous post) , my parents deserve a huge amout of credit. I have no bills to pay so it gives me the opportunity to save up money.

I've told my parents and my friends that the purchase of my car is one of the most irresponsible things I could do, I completely understand that. My parents tried stopping me but the only person that could stop my ignorance was myself. At the end of the day I feel like I'm living a dream when I drive my car, I couldn't be any happier.

Congrats on your Z. If you've worked this hard to afford a nice car, I have no doubts you will work even harder to achieve your other goals. Just be careful when driving.

If I came home with a Z at that age I would find the locks changed...Even when I bought the 350z(age 24 ish) I was scolded by my parents(wasn't new either) and you should hear them with this one, they truly believe they screwed up somewhere in parenting because of how irresponsible these purchases are, but guess what, the 370 is my lambo, I think over a certain dollar amount it is stupid for a car, I respect a well done "poor mans" sports car properly modified over a high end production car. I dont want to be the 70 year old man driving his dream vette, that is pointless IMO. Do it while you're younger, at 17 or 19 if I had this car, oh the tickets I would have, hell I got in trouble with a 87 NA rx7!

I got my 1st Z at 18. It was a 5 yr old 83zx and she was sweet.

It was irresponsible, after just 2 weeks i started slipping. I found myself leaving the Nintendo controllers and actually leaving the house and working. Pickin up girls and going for "rides." Yep, it was the thug life for me. I didn't know what was gonna happen next. Months turned into years and the twisted turns I took led me down a life I didn't expect. I grew up.
It's a car not a crime.

to the OP
Gratz on the Z.

Don't do anything stupid and keep the speed on the track.
