Evasive Motorsports: Kics Project Magnetic Drain Plug

Well, here's the EXACT one I have on my car and it's RED . It's held up great for 80,000 miles (current odo on Z 83, xxx miles). If you want, I can buy it and ship it to my house. Then I can personally ship it to your address. Let me know.

Can't you just put a strong magnet on the oil pan (maybe NEAR the drain plug), pull it when you change your oil, and get the same result (letting the draining oil flush any metal bits)?

The point of putting the magnet on the filter is to hold any metal bits in the filter, which you throw out when changing. If you put the magnet on the pan, chances are that not all of the bits will drain out when draining.

True, I read his post wrong

You could put a magnet on the oil drain plug, but filter is always a better choice

I did both recently. I still have nightmares of seeing the tranny drain plug on my ex wife's Nissan Pulsar. It looked like it had an afro.

LMAO, well most was probably from break in, and the filter isn't as good as the engine oil filter, and you don't change it often, so it's a bunch of years build up

As for a filter mag, get a dead hard drive, break it, find 2 magnets. That's what I use. No way the filter mag is stronger
LOL. Not a bad idea. Such a simple concept. I can see members with magnets from blown JL audio 10W6's on a tiny oil filter.

Not sure of that (maybe). With a magnet on the pan, however, you could use a larger and stronger magnet that could pull more metal out of suspension. Also, larger surface area would inverse your probability of capture. Plug magnets have a relatively small (point) surface area.

Not sure about filter magnets, stuff that passed through modern filters must be tiny.

Would make an interesting experiment.
