Hate to say there is definitely a lot of bias here. The ZL1 outperforms the Z in every category except braking. It is a heavy car and may not feel as nimble as the Z, but when put to the test it will beat the Z with room to spare. Granted it does have a distinct power advantage. It's still a very well designed car.
That said, why the ZL1 over a C7 Corvette? Base price on a Vette is cheaper, the Vette is way lighter, quicker 0-60, better handling, better gas mileage, and looks better IMO. Even with the Z51 package and magnetic ride control, it comes out the same price as the ZL1. You can go much higher on the Vette of course, but you don't have to. |

Other reasons are its expensive to mod the 370z with not much gain unless you spend about 10grand or more to turbo/supercharge it. lastly I guess I am getting tired of it and I kinda want some V8 old school muscle. In the end I might just stay with my Z. Really all this is just a want not a need I have other cars.

I’m pretty much in line with everyone else here. I’m not a huge fan of the Camaro and all the versions look the same. I would rather have the Shelby GT500 over the Camaro Zl1. If you are going to spend this kind of money to get a Zl1, then why not pay a couple dollars more and get the new Corvette. The new Corvette is pretty effen sexy, 7MT (if you go this route), V8, lots of power, kick arse gas mileage considering a V8 & the hp it has, and etc. You also need to stop and think which car will give you the most headache down the road to fix and which car is more reliable too.

I upgraded to a Z06 in May and it is day and night different. The Z was quick but the vette is on another planet. The ZL1s are really badass and they actually handle really well since they have the mag ride suspension, but the downside is the crappy A pilar that cuts out needed visibility when turning and the overall size of the car for me is too large. The weight doesn't matter as much when you have 580hp and huge brakes, but for general (non-performance) maneuvering and parking it plays a big part. If you're looking for more power and torque, you have to ditch the Z. Even with Twin Turbos, you're not going to make as much RELIABLE power as you can with the V8. And with the V8 there won't be any gauges to monitor or headaches. Just stomp the gas and go. The Z is a great platform for 300-400hp. More than that is stretching it.

Sounds like you already made your mind OP, considering that they are two completely different cars I would just part out your Z and buy the ZL1 so you can be happy about it
A modded car is actually worth less if you trade it in so try to find a buyer through the forum or autotrader otherwise return it to stock and get raped on the trade in |

Sell your car privately if you plan to sell; remove and part out whatever mods you can.
If you want a Camaro, go for it. Alternatively, wait and see what the next Mustang will look like. My own (possibly worthless) opinion: I am not a fan of the new Camaro, or really of the new Mustang -- if I had to have backseats, my guilty pleasure would be a blown, black Charger or Challenger SRT8.

In either case, you win with a C7 for the same price. I say get the Corvette. |

I don't doubt the ZL1's capabilities but for me, performance is only one aspect. This is purely subjective, obviously, but I find the exterior/interior styling of the Camaro a huge turn off. It's just trying too hard on the outside, combined with the Wal-Mart special interior. The Corvette is better, but, as a whole, they have never appealed to me. For the asking price of a ZL1, I would rather TT my Z and load it with suspension goodies, because it's more my style. Again this is purely subjective and to each his own. Good luck with whatever you do.
