Shifting past 3k causes a lot of jerking/rocking motion with gears going in significantly rougher and forceful.

This just points out the differences in how we drive a stick.

If you think the Z is boggin at 2.5K, then you downshift when you need the power.

I like running at lower rpms. They see me Rollin' They Hatin'.

All of you are a bunch of rookies…. The only gear I am in is reverse and that is how I drive.

I’m BS with you. To break the car in I shifted no higher than 3k RMP’s, but didn’t pass 70 MPH. Once you get an exhaust you will easily shift between 3-4k RMP’s in all gears & sometimes higher. When you downshift with an exhaust it is sexy to hear and see the RPM’s jump to 3-4k RPM’s.

During the break in stage you wanna be both careful and aggressive. I dont remmeber where i heard this, but to maximise your engines power you wanna get on it offten. Yet dont drive it like you stole it either. Watch your fuilds, change your oil on time. Dont redline it. Its a sports car man

rev til you see white smoke coming out from the hood...

that's the most accurate signal from the engine itself telling you it's time to shift...

Follow break in, who cares after? Redline it, bring it back to Nissan if it breaks. I truthfully see 7.5 every chance I have. Its just so much godd^mn fun. Every chance meaning 1st and 2nd, rarely, very rarely 3rd. Though 5th has seen 5.5K at Sebring a few times.

But i couldn't wrap my head around the point of having to shift in 25-30mph increments (4-->5-->6). That just seems to make 6th gear pretty worthless imho. I'm not trying to argue, just explaining my thought process.

I pretty much ignore 4 and 5, 3rd to sixth for me. Hell, i hink i do away with 3rd too often as I think about it. Fawking traffic.

Just remember eurojjj19, until you're out of the break in period, don't beat on it too much.

With my 4.36 final drive, daily driving on surface streets w/stoplights I usually shift around ~4,500RPM.

I dont plan on coming close to those ranges, i just want to know for informations sake.

The reason all of these questions sound so noobish is because my first manual was a 94 Civic and it did NOT have a tachometer, so i had to base everything off of mph and engine sound. So im now trying to wrap my head around RPM being the main gauge of when to shift. So, sorry for the simplistic questions, but i am learning.
Everything is still based off feel and sound. Drive the car more and you will find the sweet spots for both city and frisky driving. Shifting down above the rpm range for a specified gear is really the only way to damage anything. Even though the car has a blinky shift light, the computer still shuts the car down at 8k so over rev is not as much of a concern.

Just drive it. There are NO magic numbers or recomended ranges. Its all ears and feel.

There are guys who want to redline once a day and others who do it frequently. It's fine unless they con themselves into thinking its good for the car. The car is perfectly satisfied with gentle shifts, get it into 6th at about 60 and stay in 6th all the way to 130+ and it would not mind.

Guys who redline often and get to believe the car likes it are like guys who want to do it every which way they can with a woman and think the woman likes it. They get blown engines and short relationships, car or woman does not matter.
