I got a base because I want to build the car my self. Why throw out money on parts that you are going to change out anyway. Do what is best for you and what you like.

This is my mentality too. However, I'm planning to mod it once I pay off the car. One thing I really do want NOW is LSD. I literally get stuck turning into a drive way sometimes.

Yes agree with DEpointfive0, definitely get the 2014. The price has dropped for 2014.

I bought base after driving the Nismo. Not sure about others, but I am not into track driving and thought the suspension for normal street and daily driver was too harsh for me. Bought an aftermarket spoiler and that's it. The base brakes are perfectly good enough for normal street use. I really depends what driver and what your plans are.

I got a 2014 base with the sports package. I prefer the radio location and extra cubby you get with the base car. The standard radio isn't bad and if you're in to aftermarket stereos then you have less to deal with than switching from the Bose unit.

Get the sports. The brakes and synchro rev are worth it. Sure the base brakes are adequate, but I see lots of people upgrade the base to the sport package brakes because of the looks. The kit will run you almost 1/3 of the sport package price, and you still won't have syncro rev match, or the forged wheels and so much more.

Default base + sport in my opinion is best for the avg. Z guy BUT

Before the but I had an 08 enth. 350, similar to sport. I found a base 2012 with only 1k miles & owned by a doctor who had to leave the area/country? Maybe a terrorist? Mileage & condition was incredible & I had a pumpkin with LSD at home. So after driving it for only 5 minutes, I found this car to be perfect for me. Now the brakes(disks) were smaller, but the car stopped just fine plus if I will do some drag racing, lighter brakes is like having lighter wheels.

So I hit a point in life (65 yrs) where I no longer will drive the country roads that are in my N.Y.S upstate area at 120+ mph with the possibility of a deer or other animals jumping out of the woods, or me losing control on a turn & smashing into trees. A smooth driving car with an excellent auto trans. made sense to me.

I didn't need/want a Nismo.

So under different circumstances , a sport model with a manual trans. would be a must, but sometimes for some of us, the base model would be fine. However, I do HAVE to have LSD.

Had to drive yesterday for 5 hours. Found the car a pleasure to drive. I'm happy(for now) with a base.

Sport pkg is awesome... The akebonos aren't track ready but are easily track upgradable. A $700 stoptech or z1 brake upgrade kit and some motul brake fluid and you're good to go. For more rigorous tracking you can add stillens brake cooling kit. This is an extra $350 investment. But it beats $5000 in a completely new brake kit. The biggest value are the wheels based on them being ultralight and forged. The LSD is not ideal for track use but for autox and tackling twisties, it does the job well.
The spoilers make the car look slightlymore aggressive but is probably the cheesiest part of the package... The sport pkg is,definitely worth it as a baseline for a light or moderately modified car.

At the dealers in my area, it was hard to find a base model without the sport package. It seems like most or even all of the Z's in my area had the sport package. That made the choice easy for me... I wanted the sport package anyway. Better tires, wheels, brakes, and sycncro rev-match made it worth it for me.
