I'm really only using it to check codes and to check system readiness.

I bought this:
Amazon.com: Autel MaxiScan MS300 CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for OBDII Vehicles: Automotive And it works to check and clear codes w/o issue. Quick, concise. ![]() |

Am I doing something wrong? I know the unit works, because I plugged it into my Jeep and it scanned everything perfectly.

Correct, the unit does not turn on at all. Is there any easy way to check that it's getting power? I don't have a voltmeter.

I bought a cheap ELM wi-fi and dashcommand. There's a slight lag, but right now I'm only using it for fun like you seem to plan on. To be honest, when I'm really looking at it, by the time I can look over at the display it's probably caught up to what I'm doing anyway. You can check out the set up in my build link below.

I have the Kiwi bluetooth and that works great with the TORQUE (andriod)app. I have also used it for dash command on my pc for some logging. But since i have an iphone(wifi kiwi needed), now i dont use it as much. Since i live in CT and you live in MA. I am willing to sell it. Just PM me.

I don't want to spend $90 for kiwi and $10 for dashcommand if it's not going to do the job of $100 obdII scanner.

I use a ScanGuageII (plugs straight into the OBD port) for reading/clearing DTCs and real-time monitoring of speed, water temp, IAT and one more param depending on what I am interested in at the time. For logging, I bought an ELM-based OBD-to-USB adapter that I connect to a laptop. I can also read/clear DTCs with the software but it's easier to use the ScanGuage. The ScanGuage runs about $160 dollars, so that may not be the best option for you. The OBD-to-USB adapter was $20-30, I already had the laptop laying around, and I downloaded the software for free.
