Default OBD II scanner/reader

I'm looking to pick up either kiwi w/ dashcommand or a physical scanner. What's the general consensus for physical obd II scanners vs plx kiwi wifi 2 and software?

I'm really only using it to check codes and to check system readiness.

I bought this:

Amazon.com: Autel MaxiScan MS300 CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for OBDII Vehicles: Automotive

And it works to check and clear codes w/o issue. Quick, concise.

I bought a cheap ELM wi-fi and dashcommand. There's a slight lag, but right now I'm only using it for fun like you seem to plan on. To be honest, when I'm really looking at it, by the time I can look over at the display it's probably caught up to what I'm doing anyway. You can check out the set up in my build link below.

I have the Kiwi bluetooth and that works great with the TORQUE (andriod)app. I have also used it for dash command on my pc for some logging. But since i have an iphone(wifi kiwi needed), now i dont use it as much. Since i live in CT and you live in MA. I am willing to sell it. Just PM me.

For your stated purposes, speed is not critical and any Bluetooth/Wi-Fi lag wouldn't be important.

I use a ScanGuageII (plugs straight into the OBD port) for reading/clearing DTCs and real-time monitoring of speed, water temp, IAT and one more param depending on what I am interested in at the time. For logging, I bought an ELM-based OBD-to-USB adapter that I connect to a laptop. I can also read/clear DTCs with the software but it's easier to use the ScanGuage.

The ScanGuage runs about $160 dollars, so that may not be the best option for you. The OBD-to-USB adapter was $20-30, I already had the laptop laying around, and I downloaded the software for free.

I watched videso of dashcommand, but I couldn't get much info about the "diagnostics" page. It runs a scan and shows sensor errors and/or not ready state. Does it go into detail though?

I don't want to spend $90 for kiwi and $10 for dashcommand if it's not going to do the job of $100 obdII scanner.

I use a cheap 20$ bluetooth ELM327 as well. I hooked it up to my factory nav using an mk808b (mini android device), HDMI to RGB converter, and the Torque app. Would be nice to have a HDMI to GVIF adapter for a better display, but those suckers are 200$ or more.

The torque app works wonders with diagnostics. I have ran down vacuums leaks in my wife's car, and a bad fuel injector on my friends wrx. But I only used dash command on my PC for data logging. So that is unknown territory for me. I can screw around with it tonight though.

Any idea if this will work to reset the TMPS after a wheel swap?

I'm not sure, I had never tried that.

I purchased new TPMS' put in on my new wheels so I didn't have to deal with all of that.

I had a set of TPMS from a set of base model wheels I had installed in my new wheels, now it's throwing the light

I've been running on my race wheels (no TPMS) for a couple of weeks waiting on my new wheels. I thought it would re-set when put on my new wheels with sensors, maybe not.
