I am not counting tires, brakes, and other odds and ends.

How in the hell do tires and brakes, two of the most expensive things you can mod besides the engine, not count?

SouthArk370Z 11-12-2013 01:34 PM

Let's see... $160 for the ScanGuageII. $20-30 for an OBD-to-USB adapter. $50 to have the hatch area interior panels R&Red so I could install some free sound dampening material (thank you GTMat). $200 on some exhaust mods. Somewhere around $100 for a GPS/Nav gadget. And $20 for the the370z.com stickers. I'd like to have some tuning software but mainly to tweak the radiator fans and such, not actual tuning, so I haven't been able to justify the expense.

geez, how do you remember all those purchases? wow!

i thought the a/c was hooked up to the radiator fans. just run defrost and you got radiator fan control...?

Great tip! I do turn on the A/C for a while (I usually have it set for fan-only) if oil/water temps get too high in stop-and-go traffic but would rather have the car do it for me. I'm pretty lazy and tapping that button is a lot of effort. :)

He's not talking about a BBK or brake upgrade, he's talking about brake wear expenses. Also, I don't how you could possibly count tires as a mod. Tires are required and just like any replacement wear items there are various levels of quality replacements but they're still just tires...lol.

I dunno good tires make a huge difference :ugh2:

I agree, just the same as good brake pads make a huge difference compared to the bargain bin. It's definitely an upgrade, I just wouldn't classify it as a mod. That said, it's entirely possible that I'm wrong but, in the grand scheme of things, it just boils down to semantics!

yah, if you look at most folks buying nice wheels, the buy garbage tires with the set making it no better than just eye candy than a 'mod.'

so getting good set of tires on stock wheels would be a mod in my book. :D

I'm not sure I agree with that. Everyone in MAZOC (local z club) that has aftermarket wheels has re-11s or pss. But you did say most not all, I'll give you that.

Reading through this thread made me realize I forgot a few things that probably puts me in the next category up.

I read that as: Different than stock tires count but replacing tires for wear/tear doesn't. If I change to non-stock tires, that goes on the tally sheet. When I replace tires (stock or not) because of wear/tear, it doesn't. YMMV

kenchan 11-12-2013 02:54 PM

yah, everything on the car wears....it's all wear items. even spoilers, paint, body kits all wear. chips, contaminants, stains, UV
