Default My baby!

I was just leaving the shop that re-lipped my rim (work VSXX) and as soon as i pulled a u-turn my wheel just came off. I suppose the lug nuts were loose, i haven't taken off the front wheels in over 2 weeks so i'm still a bit confused how it just fell off.

Anyways, i just gotta move forward. Will insurance cover this? The front bumper, side skirt, and front fender are all pretty messed up. I don't see any other problems, but i'm getting the car inspected tomorrow. Does anyone know if insurance will pay for the whole car to be repainted?

The shop's totally gotta cover that if they relipped the wheel that just fell off moments later. Someone done effed up.

omfg!!!

That is horrible

My heart feels for you.

I would think it wouldbe like any other accident although the shop that installed the wheels may get pulled into it. That would be the insurance company's job tho-not yours. You pay for insurance for a reason.
(If I am wrong i am sure somebody will correct me.)

Gawd. I'm sorry.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I've had the stock wheels up front for 2 weeks, i took off my rims and put on the OEM rims back on myself. I dropped off the rim to be re lipped a couple weeks ago, i've been driving fine since then.

Thanks, i just got the car a few months ago too.

Im using the same logic, i pay insurance for a reason, but it might technically be my fault since i was the one who put the stock wheel on. I'm still not sure how the wheel just falls off like that though. I'm just hoping im covered.

also lug nuts don't just fall off 2 weeks later they normally fall off right away and the wheel will vibrate like a mofo once you loose even one lug nut! speaking from experience.

at 16 we used to f-around with a couple farm trucks and one day sure enough we didn't tighten (and I mean torque tight, they were hand tight with ratchet) and we didn't make it more then 100yds from the barn back down the driveway out to the fields!

The wheel just fell off, there was some vibration seconds before it fell. There was a slight noise coming from that wheel for a few days, but nothing serious, i shouldn't have overlooked it.

the more I think about this, the more I think they took your wheel off dude. They might deny it but think about it, it would be 10x easier to take the wheel off the car put on work table repair rim (I am sure the tire was left on that's no biggie) then they put rim on but didn't tighten.....

did you get more then one rim repaired?

Okay, you have two sets of wheels. Do they take the same lug length/ lug nuts? That may have been where your issue was. Wouldn't be uncommon for them to take different styles and it absolutely as to be the right style. But dang, on the front wheel you should have felt a vibration when the first lug nut came off just from being unbalanced.

Insurance will cover it, but I'd first get an estimate and then talk to my agent. It could be that you're better off paying out of pocket when you figure in the deductible + rate increase.

If you had an accident, run off the road, rear end somebody, etc.. It is your fault and the insurance pays. So it should still pay. Your rates will prob go up but it should still pay.

Yeah insurance should cover it, if you have full coverage. That is what you pay for, that is what you get.

But like others have said...might have insurance rate increase.

For a fender replacement and rotor plus misc. items, I would think around 1 to 1.5K and I am guessing a little high....no I'm not high, the price guess is.

If your deductible is $500, then you might want to think twice about getting insurance involved. If you don't have an extra K laying around, then let them cover it.

Sorry for your hard luck, but things happen and thankfully no one was hurt and you weren't driving at a high speeds. Things could have been a lot worse.

Making a claim doesn't necessarily mean your rates will go up. I had a $20K claim (my fault, no other vehicles involved) a few years ago and my rates didn't go up. YMMV - I've been with State Farm for 40 years and only made a few claims.

True. Lots of companies don't increase rates based on the first claim.
