My poll answers are Both M and F / 7 AT she drives it about 60% of the time and me 40%. We both wanted the 7AT as the other car is a manual and probably the soon to be acquired 3rd car will be manual.
Now that Ive settled that is it boxers or briefs in the Z for males. Thongs or normal for the women....I guess I could add none to the what underwear do you wear when you drive poll as well :)

Have her vote for herself.

I honestly can't determine why anyone would get the manual with as good as the AT trans in manual mode is. My car picked up 3MPH and 2/10ths in the 1/4 mile at the track going to manual mode in my AT. The shifts are hard like a mule kicking you in the kidneys and crisp/fast. Much faster than anyone could shift a manual. The bonus is it will hold the gear until you tap the paddle or shifter to grab the next gear.

I have a 2009 Challenger that's got a built motor, blower, etc making 600RWHP. In THAT car I had to have the manual trans. The autos in the Challenger are no where near as good as these Z transmissions are. Having said that, my manual Challenger is almost exactly .5 slower in ET at the quarter mile than an identically built/weight/etc automatic car and I can shift.

Two reasons spring to mind. One, some of us prefer a manual no matter how good the auto may be. Two, it can't hold a lot of power.

How many 6mt vs. 7at threads do we really need?

^^ Just one with a poll apparently.

I thought you had to be a premium member to start a poll and the OP isn't. Did someone help?

6MT is nostalgic too. :ugh2:

I like the feel. Though, I think my next car will be AT as long as it has paddles, and that may not be by choice. Porsche doesn't have MT anymore. :(

If the 370z was not going to be my only car for the majority of the first year that I have it, I would have gone with the 6MT as well. Manual is just a much more engaging driving experience. The 7AT is phenomenal, and its manual mode is just as fun to me as a true manual, but at the same time it is still not the same thing. Sometimes you just gotta have that foot action going on.

Edit: I don't think you need to be premium. I'm not an I've started a poll before. Also just noticed this was my 100th post! :happydance:

i like the sound of the exhaust when mated to a MT. a lot more musical...graceful or aggressive which ever mood you're in.

I need to find a 370Z on a used car lot somewhere and test drive it to see what I'm missing...lol! :driving:

Mine is a daily driver and I have to fight traffic, so the auto was a no brainer for me. My calf goes to sleep driving my Challenger to work in that traffic.

In manual mode I don't see there being much difference sound wise. I have video of my auto in manual mode with the FI exhaust on my site and YouTube Channel and it is glorious.

Preference is something I can surely understand. I wouldn't want an auto in my Challenger as a muscle car should be manual trans. Having said that if I break too much more crap in that car racing it I may do an auto conversion eventually and quit throwing good money after bad. It seems the manuals are much harder on parts for that 4300 lb pig. Do they not have beefed up parts for the autos for power?

What tranny would a Tranny select?

take off sound is musical on a MT (first you dont hear a drivetrain cluck getting into D in a MT after a quick flash of reverse light :ugh:), and the car has a breath and exhale rhythm going up the gears while accelerating. where as AT, it's exhale followed by a flat lower pitch, exhale followed by a flat lower pitch, etc.

downshifts are pretty similar though. :)

kenchan 11-07-2013 04:16 PM

worst are CVT mated to loud exhausts... like a newb slipping/riding clutch sound followed by a taffyapple/whale or something exhaling her lungs forever... :eekdance:

Car with a clutch and paddle shifters - Yes

Car with a torque converter and paddle shifters - Not a fan
