Notchy 2nd gear after cold start?
Anyone else run into this issue? Seems to be almost always when car is cold. It will occasionally do it when warmed up but rare. Feels very 'notchy' from 1st->2nd and make a slight grind noise, similar to shifting into gear with the clutch isnt fully depressed. After 5mins or so it seems to go away.
Is this even worth bringing up when I go into the dealer or would this be considered normal? |
same here, i just pause when I shift and engage the gear slowly until the car reaches 180 on the oil gauge which seems to be around the time the tranny feels much more willing.
I considered it to be a characteristic of the tranny, or the gear oil type/weight. |
same here. I think some people have gotten rid of the noise using Redline MT-90 in the 6MT which I'll probably try out soon.

I haven't noticed it on mine yet, however, having skimmed these threads for a couple months, you are not the first person to notice this!

I don't know about you guys, but I need a hot shower to get going in the morning. Your trans is no different. It needs to have the fluid up to temp before it's going to operate as designed.

Interesting that its only 2nd gear though. Obviously any transmission works optimally at proper operating temps but by that logic all/most gears would be notchy after cold start. However, every other gear is butter smooth after cold start except 2nd.
As CCCLXXZ mentioned I guess we can just chalk this up as characteristic of this 6spd trans |

Every gear is a bit 'rough' when the tranny is cold. 2nd is just the most noticeable.
