And I'm not saying you should deny that you were on the phone, but rather just avoid the topic. If someone is curious enough and/or this goes to court, they'll just pull your phone records and catch you lying, and then you're in a world of hurt. And if you tell the mechanics or your friends that you were on the phone, and they wind up interviewed as well, they're not likely to lie for you.

3. Take responsibility for your mistake. It is rare that a single car accident is going to be truly blamed on someone else. You do have lights, eyes, and a car you can slow down while you turn...
