This is true, though I must confess my comment was originally directed (just slower than yours) to the comment about yours...however, in my opinion it fits both scenarios.

Most of the ordinances I have seen are that you cannot alter the exhaust system making it louder than stock.

How about someone produce some actual proof instead of blabbing back and forth.

replacing exhaust is fine as long as its below the 95dB reading

bealieve me i got my good share of exhaust tickets and trips to the state referee(all are dismissed because i have a replacement exhaust and NOT an altered exhaust

as everyone already now cali has the strickest rules when it comes to modding cars

You guys are lucky you are not in cali, my friend's evo got pulled over here in davis ca for having a loud exhaust i think it can't be over 95 decibels then after that they made him open up his hood unfortunately he had polished intercooler pipes and a intake. The Cop said he had illegal mods and sent him to the state ref. The funny thing was he was going the speed limit lol damn CA cops .

Where I live, I know you can get it for at least 3 different things. If it's not DOT approved, if it's simply disturbing the peace (has to be really loud), and if you decide to spin the tires a cop may give you an option of reckless driving or loud tail pipe if you're lucky.

I gotta tell you, that last little bit disturbs me. Let me state up front that I'm not trying to single you out, ZKindaGuy. The sentiment you express is commonly shared by many people. But it is this commonality of the sentiment that has me shaking my head. Are we really at a point in this society where we just casually and obediently shrug off a state-sanctioned shake-down as no big deal, business as usual? I mean seriously. Shouldn't we be outraged that while we common folk already have to tighten our belts and cut back, our local governments just rub salt into the wound by treating us as an inexhaustible supply of revenue that they can just extort, much like a bully on a playground? When do we say enough is enough?

Just to let everyone know there is no such thing as a "loud Exhaust ticket"

I have asked my aunt on several occasions and she is a lawyer in Chicago area

I guess it depends on how you define a "loud Exhaust ticket". If she said you can't get a ticket for a loud exhaust, I recommend you not ask that lawyer for legal advice They certainly call it something else, but it's the same as if you turn up your stereo too loud. I don't have any friends that got one recently, but my friends did in fact get tickets for loud exhaust.
