Police ticketing for loud exhausts
I've read it many times but I don't fully understand the 'exhaust is too loud and cops will ticket you' mentality. I have many ferarris, lambos, and even an Audi RS4 in my neighborhood that are all damn loud and they are purely stock. I can't imagine that they get regularly ticketed for having too loud an exhaust note...right? There are so few 370Zs in Chicago, I'd just tell the cop it's stock.
What are your thoughts on this? Is it just small town cops that hassle for noise issues? My guess is that Chicago cops couldn't care less. $hit...there are louder Harley's and crotch rockets in my neighborhood... |

Its essentially what amounts to a public nuisance or noise complaint issue...you wouldn't believe how many folks call 911 or a non-emergency line because of someone tearing down roads at full throttle...and heaven help you if you live in a suburban neighborhood, where the "citizen watch" people will call every single night, expecting you to stake out the guy responsible.

Seniors and also what I call "Fat Lindas." Which are the fat chicks who were fat growing up, so now they sit around and complain and letter-write to make people as miserable as they are.

I can't really speak nationwide or beyond, but at least here in Memphis, mostly...yes, its the elderly...though every now and then you also get (at least for me, I work the 4-12 shift) those overnighters who work graveyard and sleep during the day...and they come in all ages...over time, you start to get to know 'em...most of 'em are pretty understanding...if you don't catch 'em in the act, there's not much you can do...but some of 'em are adamant that you do nothing but sit at corner X and Y and wait...and wait...and wait...because at XX:XX, the offender will roll through, and you should be there.
Sigh. |

Folks..it was just on the national news this past week that due to the economic turndown the police are resorting to increased ticket writing as a revenue generator since the projected sources of money that were planned in the budget are not happening as a direct result of the economy. So I really doubt its due to any particular segment of people complaining to the cops. Its just business.
