Do muffler muffler delete axle back exhausts harm the engine?
Hey guys. I just got ordered a set of AAM short tails for my 2011 Z. They should be to me within a few days. I keep hearing about people losing a ton of low end torque, and am now a little concerned that the lack of back pressure may somehow damage the engine itself. I know I sound a little paranoid, but if anyone could shed some light on this, Id be very grateful. I just got my car back from the dealer after having the transmission, throw out bearing, clutch fluid, and rear axles replaced under warranty due to a faulty input shaft, and clicking in the rear from my axles. I just washed it and waxed it and want to put my first mod on it, and after hearing the AAM short tails, its the exact sound I am going for, I am just afraid of causing damage due to lack of back pressure.

I think you lose some low end torque but gain hp in high rpms? I could be wrong. Just something I heard.

As far as your car, this is what I would recommend. Put test pipes on your car, plus the short tails, change to 4:08 gears & get a good tune. With the gears, you'll won't feel a loss of TQ & the car will be super quick & fast. With traction & good shifting, you can have a mid 12 second car. You'll gain a ton of H.P. & the car will be loud as hell. |

Thanks for all the replies. I feel better about it now. Especially since I got input from the company I bought them from. So thank you. Im not used to a forum where people who work for a company actually chime in and give advice/help so its refreshing to see this. Thanks AAM for the reply along with everyone else whos given advice. As for my car, yes there were a bunch of problems but considering where I bought the car from, Im not surprised(its my fault for thinking they would be honest after what had happened with the 350z I had purchased a day before that, which ended up being bought back by them in exchange for this car because I was so angry and had so many issues after only having it 3 days). I just figured a car with only 20k miles, wouldn't have as many problems as I have had so far.(I was wrong) Funny thing is even with the new transmission and the new throwout bearing and new GTR clutch fluid being replaced, and having them rebleed it again for piece of mind and having the tech test drive it with me and fixing some TSB's, it still has the same sounds coming from the trans(little bearing noise probably from the design of the throwout bearing) along with notchy shifts. My only thought is that maybe since it a completely new transmission, new fluid, that maybe it needs a break in period before these issues correct themselves a little bit and don't make a millisecond grind in each gear. Its drivable, but until the car warms up a good bit, the shifts in 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd are notchy and almost sound as if they are slightly grinding before going in. Ive never had a 370z or a 350z for that matter, always had integras and civics and mustangs etc, so maybe what I am hearing and feeling after a complete replacement is simply how its designed. Maybe they are just noisey and are notchy. I dunno. Thanks for everyones input!

That's what I have been reading that the transmission are loud and clunky. I am kind of concerned however that the past couple of days I have noticed a pulsation in the clutch pedal when sitting at idle with the clutch pedal pushed down. I had originally brough the car in for this pulsation and a bearing noise in which case they said the solution was to replace the transmission and the throw out bearing. I had asked them to check the clutch while the transmission was off and they told me that from what they could see without taking it apart, that it looked fine and not to mess with it. To take it apart completely would have cost 240 dollars apparently. So I am just concerned that the pulsation I am still experiencing is doing premature wear on something. Maybe I am just being paranoid. Has anyone else experienced clutch pedal pulsation? The clutch still grabs great with no slipping and the gears shift OK. I do notice when starting in 1st gear from a stop that sometimes the clutch feels a little chatty/shuttery.

As I read through google and this forum I keep seeing how frequently people are saying how normal these issues I am experiancing are. I just dont see how a pulsation in the clutch pedal is normal, let alone a car this expensive with only 20k on it. Maybe I have just been spoiled with integra transmissions and mr2 transmissions. Or maybe I shouldnt assume that a car in this price range should be smooth as butter. Oh well, if you guys feel its nothing thats going to cause a failure, then I will take it as a normal quirk.

its a loud sports car, not a Mercedes Benz. performance comes at a price, and thats loud, chattery trans and road noise. This isn't a FWD Honda lol but it's normal. my trans chatters, my exhaust hisses, my windows sometimes roll part way down after i auto roll them up. but i love my damn car
