SynchroRev Match Question
While test-driving a 370Z with a manual transmission at the local dealership, I noticed the engine would rev up twice like I was gasing it when I was coming to a stop at a stop light. This would happen as I would push the clutch in and take the car out of whatever gear it was in getting ready to put it into first. Is this normal? It sounded like I was intentionally gasing the car and wanting to race the car next to me, lol.
I turned off the SynchroRev match system by hitting the button to the right of the gearshifter, and it would still rev up once as I came to a stop light and pushed in the clutch. At no time had I ever had my foot on the gas pedal! Also, when you press in or release the SynchroRev Match button, there was no dash indicator light stating anything has changed. Is there none? Was there a problem with this car or is this normal with the SynchroRev match transmission? Thanks. |

I feel that my car has become much smoother with the Synchrorev... for the first thousand miles it would be revving freely quite often but as it learned my driving style I feel that it adapted the synchrorevving.
I enjoy it very much now and makes downshifting effortless and smooth. Nick

You have to develop a feel to the "detect" sensitivity the computer has to the car being shifted. Sometime I have found myself putting just a very slight pressure on the shifter in anticipation of my wanting to shift as I just start to push the cluth in. I immediate start to hear the SyncRev start to kick in and start a rev-cycle. I then for whatever reason let up on the pressure of the shifter and then reapply pressure again to commit to an actual shift (on my part) which causes the SyncRev to reset and start its rev-matching up for a second time. After a while you will get used to the sensitivity and this double rev will go away as you are now "sensitized" to the SynCRev's triggering and timing of its rev program cycle.
As for turning "off" the SyncRev button, when you turn it "off" you have to hold the button down until you actually see the Syncrev "S" go off on the dashboard. This usually takes 3 to 5 seconds. It doesn't go off with just a quick push of the button like when it turns "on". Last edited by ZKindaGuy; 08-15-2009 at 09:25 PM. |

Yes and you want there to be some sensitivity because you want it to act before you get into gear of course. Playing around with the shifter (jostling left and right in neutral for instance) will of course cause it to blip the throttle inappropriately but then again jostling the shifter is "inappropriate" as well

I was probably doing that as well, but I guess it wasn't obvious to me. Thanks. |

The SRM system does a 'preemptive' throttle blip assuming you're going to enter a lower gear when you first start to move toward a lower gear's gate. When you come through the lower gear's gate, you get a second blip that matches the revs. For example, if you come out of 5th gear and allow the shifter to 'settle' in the neutral position which is down and left of 5th gear, the system will blip thinking you're going towards 4, 3, 2, or 1. Once you pass neutral and touch a lower gear gate, you get the precise rev match on the second blip. This approach seems to give the SRM system a head start to ensure your revs are correct once you're in the lower gear. With quick shifts, you'll never notice the double blip, but with slower shifts you will. It's normal for the system to give a blip if you are coasting to a stop and take it out of gear and leave it in neutral. The system is smart enough to know that passing neutral with a rightward movement of the shifter should not evoke a blip. Overall, it's a pretty darn smart system.
