I was so embarassed today!!!

Lol i went to the dealership today because i had check engine light... But turns out it was a "check tire pressure" warning. The funniest of all is, this happened to me maybe couple months ago and i filled the air myself and everything was fine... Idk how i made a such careless mistake and got them two mixed up... I felt like the biggest noob when the guyLol and i was gonna post pix but i was lazy... Lol i hope u guys got a good laugh outta this and enjoy ur rest of the day!

thank you for being honest

Ghostvette 10-04-2013 12:41 PM

JZNx, I can relate. I had the 'yellow warning triangle' pop up over the weekend and I kind of freaked out a little (car has less than 4K on the odometer). I was like 'aw crap, what did I do?' Turns out, it was the 'low fuel' warning, I was at 2 dots on the fuel gauge. Now I feel a little :owned:

this sounds like my mom many yrs ago when her lexus had the PWR mode (?) turned on by accident on her AT... :ugh:

there should be a test people must pass before buying these cars. :icon17:

wat is TPMS? how is it different from PMS?
wat is VDC? how effective is it when a dumbarse driver uses it while hitting tree?
wat is RACECAR?
wat is a Non-Aspirated engine? How does it differ from Naturally-Aspirated engines?

I went to the dealer once on another car after I had washed and cleaned it because the passenger window would not go up any more. Apparently I hit the window lock button. They didn't believe I had the car for 5 years and didn't check that first.

Elan 10-04-2013 05:10 PM

First time I was low on gas and my yellow triangle came on, I had a mini panic attack. Thought it was an SES light for a second! They should have made it a little gas tank indication or 'Fuel' that lights up.

Yeah you look like a real idiot trying to troubleshoot why your window doesnt work. I did this about a month ago.

I once had to panic stop because this b!tch merged over without looking at me 55s/22w. I jabbed the breaks hard and then my tire maintenance light came on. It was 5k into the car and didnt know what to do until I realized it was just a maintenance light.:shakes head:

Oh man, when I had my mazda 6 I called the dealership up cause the check engine light was on. Conversation went like this... "hello, I need to make an appointment because the check water pump light is on..." Dealer: "huh? the what light is on?" me: "You know the check water pump light" Dealer: "ummmm suuure, bring it on in and we will check it out"

I didnt realize what I said until after I hung up the phone. I actually did keep my appointment but made my ex wife drop it off and pick it up :icon17:

With my first car I once freaked out when I put my backpack in the passenger seat and the seat belt warning light came on. It didn't click that the backpack was heavy enough to trigger that and I got scared and pulled off the road and turned everything off. I thought that my driver seat-belt was malfunctioning, and being the paranoid new driver I panicked. Made my dad drive 20 minutes to me to throw my backpack in the trunk and call me a dumb ***.

Yeah, sounds like it was just the kneejerk "OH SH*T YELLOW/ORANGE/RED LIGHTS ARE BAD" reaction. I've done it. The first time I saw the TPMS light I freaked and pulled over to the side of the road. Had to pull out the user manual to see what that light meant. (First car I've owned with a TPMS)

My dumbarse story: (and i usually call Onzedge freaking out)
MY HATCH HAS A HUGE GAP! I was washing it and THE SUDS AND WATER ARE INSIDE THE HATCH!! OMG!! WHATS WRONG WITH MY CAR !!!!

Onze: calm down and check the rubber stops. Did you wash around those? If you did one of them has probably twisted out a bit and is preventing the hatch from closing all the way. Check and call me back.

That sounds like one of my moves.

Shadezz 10-05-2013 11:11 AM

Sounds like me...after using then auto window down feature from the key fob the first few weeks....the passenger window would only go down a little over a quarter down...:shakes head:, but I was forgetting to press the unlock twice before attempting it. My nissan tech kindly said "so now one can say you learned something about your car":tiphat: though I don't think I'll ever need this safety feature....cool that it does it....just wish I wouldn't of looked :icon14: when I was asking the tech about it.

Why do we have this feature? To lock the driver out of window roll up? Passenger yes.

I have a wall switch in my house. I never use it as I use another switch that powers the other. Every few years some exterminator, cable guy, wife, etc throws the wall switch and I spend quite a bit of time figuring out what happened. When I remember finally :icon14: I get mad at myself for wasting all this time.

Luciano13 10-05-2013 06:07 PM

:icon18::roflpuke2: that's awesome!!! Im sure we've all.done something like that once or even twice before

gunz4me 10-06-2013 07:31 PM

Don't feel bad... I put my WRX in limp mode by not tightening the gas cap and freaked myself out. I almost went to the dealership but decided to check all the obvious first. When I opened the fuel door the cap fell out... Guess I didn't screw it on after getting gas, lol.

I swear I feel my heart sink anytime any kind of warning or indicator comes on in my Z. My wife knows this and occasionally barely pulls up on the e-brake when we are at a red light and then puts it back down right as I focus in on its indicator. I then go into "WTF WAS THAT!?!?!?" mode and start looking for a place to pull over. She usually stops me right away depending on how close we are to April 1st... Damn I love that woman.

I did this on my Eclipse about 4 years into ownership. The only time I've ever used that button was on accident that one time.

On the Eclipse as well, I've had the check engine light come on just because I didn't click the fuel cap three clicks. It then stays on for days before going off, just long enough for you to worry about what might be wrong.

This is exactly why the IT guy always asks "Is it plugged in?" first....

That's why I tape those switches into their desired positions, so they don't accidentally get switched off.

It definitely is! Though, we still make mistakes ourselves.

I took my car in, because I wasn't getting the lock chime when pressing the button on the outside of the door. Turns out it was a loose fuse that I knocked loose swapping another that my license plate bulb/LED swap blew.

Took my car in to get a fuse pushed back in. :rofl2:

However, the dealership one-upped me, because they said they couldn't fix my SES light (turns out it may have been bad fuel), because the O2 sensor wire was lengthened by my when I installed my HFCs, which it was not (and I have about 4 witnesses that helped me install the damn exhaust).

Add me to the embarrassed list. I was parked on a fire lane with the engine and hazard lights on. As I go to leave, I reach for the what I thought was the hazard light button but turned out to be the start button. Car turns off in drive and for a second I can't figure out how to restart it.

I blame early onset Alzheimer's.

When I first got my X-terra I could find a release for the gas tank, and there wasn't a finger dimple on the fuel door to pull it up. Couldn't find any thing in the owners manual. Went back and had the salesman show me the easy push the front of the door to make it open trick. (At this point I had been a licensed rolls mechanic for over a year.) Just goes to show any one can over think simple **** and make it complicated.
