Default G37 engine and 370z engine

Couple of Q's, since I'm new to the Nissan family...

AFAIK, the G37 and the 370z have the same engine. Maybe different ECU or something long those lines, but, the engine is the same AFAIK...

Has the G37 been out longer than the 370z?

As in, with two people on this forum having mass-oil burn issues (one needing an engine replacement, the other???) - are G37 owners having the same issue?

How "tested" is this engine?

Random parts failures.. Stuff breaks (which is why you have a warranty). I don't see a trend here given the 10,000 Z's out there and probably more G's..

True, but on the other hand, this is a fairly small forum

I've had over 2,400 miles and it appears to be running fine. It did get louder though... [after installing aftermarket exhaust].

I own one of the first G37's from a 2007 bulid date. One of the first batches.
I do not have any oil burning issues ** knocks on wood**

I only had a few glitches such as random banging noises, actuator problems, exhaust rattle, engine accelerating by itself.......

Infinity has had the engine for almost 2 years longer than Nissan Division. They are proven engines. Sometimes the computers can't catch everything.

The Nissan man just spelled INFINITI wrong

the engine isn't bad at all, Mine had a few glitches

can u imagine being in a traffic light rush hour and having to use the parking brake to hold the car down. I didn't want to shift into neutral bc I will be neutral dropping and peeling out at every light. So as soon as the parking brake is released and I barely let go of the brake pedal, the G jerks forward....like a beast.
So messed up

Did you shut it off and start it back up, and it kept doing it?

What was the cause?

No idea what was the cause, happened like 4 or 5 times. Dealership could not replicate it. They even kept it for a few days. After a restart, it still there sometimes.

Gremlins....lol

I have nearly 6,000 miles on mine with no issues. My friend has one of the first G37s with over 40,000 miles on it with no issues, and he does nothing to take care of the car. He's only changed the oil twice since he has had it.

40k and changed the oil twice? Sounds like someone doesnt much care about their $40,000 investment!
