Are you talking about the microscopic film left in the cylinders? Sure, that can burn - that won't put much of a dent in a quart over 3000 miles.

I'm not speaking in terms of absolutes. On the microscopic level, all cars burn oil. I didn't think I'd need to clarify my point to that extent...

No you don't. You've made an incredibly big deal about this in numerous threads, yet you haven't demonstrated that your car even burns oil...Heck, by your own admission you never even check it so how would you know? Your expectation that everything should be perfect is unrealistic. Especially when you're as casual about common sense basic maintenance as you seem to be.

Sorry that you're taking my posts from a strong literal perspective.

Do you think it's OK for a 40,000 car to burn 1qt of oil per 1,000 miles?

What about 3/4, 1/2...at what point do you find it acceptable?

Now, contrast that with a Honda Civic, that has a 6000 mile oil change interval, and the engine holds 3 quarts of oil. What would happen if that engine burned oil like what some have posted here with their Z? After the first oil change, I've never checked it between changes. I do check it the day of, and after I'm done...but between; nope - I don't need to. I do 15K oil changes now...still not a problem. 15K on a Z, that eats a 1/2 quart every 3K would likely blow up.

As for my Z - I checked it a few weeks ago. However, at the time I didn't have a baseline because I never checked it before then. Since then, I've changed the oil and have a new baseline. Time will tell if mine has a leak problem or not. To be honest, I'm debating on running the old oil through a coffee filter to see what turns up.

Anyhow...blame me for the Z burning oil - I don't care. All I can say is Nissan better hope it DOESN'T happen to me.

You really need to check your oil on some kind of a regular basis!

I've responded to plenty of posts on this. Key word: Break-in. Live with it

Also you might want to check that dipstick on your Honda. I've hd several (about 30 actually) and they take more than 3 quarts.
