Yep we pulled 1 quart. So we put in 5 /18 quart, let it idle for an 1 hour, and it burned 1/2 quart. So we drained the other 4 quarts and put a flashlight on it and it lit up like a christmas tree. So I may be getting new engine here. Might have to make some upgrades while the engine is out.

Still waiting to hear back from Nissan what the offical word is.... so till then
I was told the block holds 6 qts, mine was down 4, so 2 left. Nissan told me that after the cam sensor was replaced the engine testing shown no harm to the motor, but they could be telling stories here.

GL dealing with Nissan Consumer Affairs, most of em aren't to bright and it takes them 3 days to get back to you. Worst customer service in my opinion, but they did make a car payment while my car was in the shop for those 4 weeks.

My car seems to be running fine now, I did drop another 2 qts in last week, and I am up to 5k miles now. I'd like to get it on a dyno just to see where the power is at.......

Sorry about your issues, standby for some pain buddy......

Really nothing lead up to it. I was driving when I heard a noise like a tree branch being dragged under the engine bay and then the car slowed in speed and then the engine died. That's aobut it.

Yup, yup same with me. Turned down the stereo and opened the window to get a better listen, about 2 blocks later...RIP.

One of the reasons it took so long to get parts, coming from Japan and they won't put inifinity parts in the Z. You will basically need all the gasket and seals, cause they will have to pull the cam cover and such.

GL with the repairs.

A dry engine holds 6 qts., but don't dump in 6 qts. for oil changes or you'll overfill it.

Well sadly it's a double edge sword for me. I have the engine approved already, which is great. But being a dealer they will put me last on the list due to not being looked at like a customer being out an engine. So who knows how long I will have to wait.

That gives you the time to get your TT kit ordered and shipped.

This car should not use anywhere near that much oil. I love the Z but what the heck is going on? My car does not burn oil it just uses it to lubricate.

I agree, is this common in the 350Z/370Z? If so when I get my 370 I will definitely check the oil level. I currently drive a slow mo Toyota, but have never burned any oil in 4 years+.

Sorry to hear what happened to you Lou(I just found this thread). From reading all the posts. do you and Rick have oil coolers?, do you think the cause of oil burning, is the high temp oil reaches in the engine? causes to damage oil seal's and other internal parts?

people who are having this issue. how often do you hit the rev limiter or close to the limit? hitting the rev or high revving causes oil to burn.

Do any of the forum member that have oil cooler have the same issue?

I'm going to keep my eye on my oil level from now on. and an oil cooler is on top of my list for this car. weather its the problem or not. seeing this high oil temp doesn't make me conformable.

P.S. if the solution was keeping the oil temp low by adding an oil cooler. and you already burring oil. adding an oil cooler won't help it to stop. coz the damage already happened.
