I wonder if it could be blown valve stem seals? From what I know of the VVEL system - the entire valve cover fills with oil...if one of those valve stem seals goes, oil will dump straight into the combustion chamber, or, out the exhaust pipe...

1/2 quart an hour is pretty fast for blowby...

Did you see any "gas film" in the oil?

When was your car built / serial number? Could be a bad run of parts, might be worth noting in case...

So it does burn oil correct?

semtex 08-11-2009 09:47 AM

Have you changed your oil since you got your car or were you still on the factory fill?

FuszNissan 08-11-2009 09:50 AM

Alright, new is New Long block, and heads. Whole lower end needs to be replaced. Yea! Time for headers

FuszNissan 08-11-2009 09:52 AM

Yes, it's buring oil
Factory Fill
No Gas film, but the oil sparkles so pretty!

Sounds like a seal (rear main seal)

Rear main seal would dump oil on the ground, not out the exhaust.

FuszNissan 08-11-2009 10:27 AM

Yeah oil spitting out the exhaust. It idled for an hour and burnt half a quart. Check your oil!!!!! I can't believe it didn't throw a oil pressure light or code. That's what scares me.

kannibul 08-11-2009 10:37 AM

I assume it's a warranty case, and not something you're getting special due to dealer relation (not insinuating, just making a point for the rest of us if this happens - I just kicked 1250 miles!)

Apparently the oil pump was pressuring things normally, hence no light as the sender thought all was fine and it would, right on up to the point where the oil to pump was depleted. Oil must be being sucked through a cylinder and out the exhaust. Catastrophic Valve stem seal failure?

FuszNissan 08-11-2009 11:16 AM

??? At this point who knows, just wired that the computer didn't catch it in time. Oh well, time to start really messing with it.

Ok...so took the advice in this thread and check my oil lol....and this is what I found...

I did an oil change at 3700 miles to synthetic Redline.

Dipstick after change read as...

L o--------|------o H

Now at 6500 Miiles it reads...

L o--|------------o H

Seems normal to me....not sure how much the change in oil level (the two slashes) relates to in quarts but it doesn't seem like much. Looks normal right?

Edit: Fixed the spacing...had to add dashes...forum doesnt input spaces
