Man that sucks! I have an ECU tune with a higher rev limit. I hope the chain can handle the high revs.
Have you tried a compression test? No compression usually indicates valves not opening or blows pistons. It's a simple check.
Hope everything works out for you.

Hmmmm...... I want to know too. 8+ years ago, the only non-destructive engine was the Toyota. I should probably Google the Z.:icon14:

I'd be very concerned if the timing chain broke on a new car even if they replace the engine under warranty. Chains are put in so that there is never any need for servicing (as with a belt).

Also, the only non-interference Toyota engines are the ones without Variable Valve Timing (which come on most older Toyota's and the newer non-performance engines).

correct... bad connections on oil cooler... $9K later, all is good

Check the oil level. My car with only 3k miles ate 4 qts of oil and the cam position sensor failed from lack of oil. If the sensor fails the ECU thinks the cams are out of phase. Took Nissan 4 weeks to figure this out and get replacement parts for my car.....

just my story, hope its not the same problem to yours

interesting rick... what were the symptoms ? check engine light ? any performance related symptoms once the ecu figured out not enough oil ?

Symptoms included low grumbling noise from passanger side engine bay. After the lights (all of em) came on the car died on the side of the road. If the ECU thinks the cams are out of phase (bad sensor) the car won't start....safety feature.

okay got it... this ECU is very intrusive... in some ways a good thing... hopefully presented a code that made diagnosis straightforward

Sooooo...the crank sensor has a lot to do with timing advance/retard right? Or maybe running rich/lean?

I was at a Nissan "370 early owners" interview in Costa Mesa, CA--Nissan S. Cali headquarters a couple months ago. And coincidently, some guy there mentioned he had the same problem with his 370 after about 3,000 miles. If this happens to mine, it better occur either before 50,000 miles or 4 yrs. whichever occurs first. I don't like surprises, and this VQ engine is held up to some high expectations.

Nissan don't fail me, this is the first Nissan I've ever owned. :ugh2:

I will make sure we check the oil, sounds similar. Thanks Rick!

Well we are getting somewhere. Unfortantely I think it's going to be a new motor.
Here are the codes.

1. Cam Sensor
2. Crank Sensor

Replaced crank sensor - nothing, won't start
Pulled one crank sensor out- starts but won't go out of Fail Safe ( which means can't test anything past this, due to not thowing a code in Fail safe)

The fun part. So after Ricks post above we check oil.

Anybody want to guess how many quarts of Oil came out?

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!

Yep we pulled 1 quart. So we put in 5 /18 quart, let it idle for an 1 hour, and it burned 1/2 quart. So we drained the other 4 quarts and put a flashlight on it and it lit up like a christmas tree. So I may be getting new engine here. Might have to make some upgrades while the engine is out.

Still waiting to hear back from Nissan what the offical word is.... so till then

Pushing_Tin 08-11-2009 09:00 AM

How many miles on the engine?

FuszNissan 08-11-2009 09:01 AM

3000
