Question Mirror mirror...

Anyone ever notice that the passenger mirror is set at a differnet angle than the drivers mirror? I'm wonderwhy they did this when the power mirror could easily adjust for the difference that they offset it?

If you don't understand, just look at your Z straight on from the front and you'll notice what I'm referring to...

I know I am old and my eyesight is not as good as it used to be. However I do not see what you are talking about. Here is a shot of my car.

Notice how the passenger mirror doesn't lock in as wide as the drivers mirror. It almost gives the appearance of the passenger mirror being smaller than the drivers mirror. It's not, it just locks at a different angle...

Notice how you see more of the black inside of the mirror on the passenger side, than on the drivers side? The angle is different...

If you use the motors to adjust the mirros, you'll find that they don't have THAT much travel inside the mirror housing. I discovered this when I wanted to direct my passenger mirror downward to see the curb I was parallel parking into. The adjustment is limited by the mirror housing. Perhaps they couldn't adjust the mirrors enough within the housing and had to alter their locking points to get appropriate rear-views and still allow some adjustment by the driver.

That's odd that they couldn't just use a better design that has more travel...My M3 can automatically point downward when put in reverse to back in to spots and it is amazingly handy. I can't imagine that the mirror housings on the 370 are so much smaller that the same couldn't have been done.

If you try to adjust the mirror downward to see the curb, it will eventually run out of travel and start making a nasty clicking as the gears grind. Nissan didn't want us to look at the curb apparently.

Yeah, been there. Apparently they planned on us parking in the middle of nowhere.

Maybe this explains why so many Z owners get curb rash.
