Someone please tell me why?
Ok, I love my Z but WTF? I just got the wife a car she has been wanting for a long time, 2013 Dodge Charger Daytona. I just was looking up some mods for her car and my jaw hit the floor. The parts for her car are dirt cheap! Can someone tell me why parts for the 370z are so damn expensive?????:shakes head:
Kinda makes me want to sell the Z...... |
1. First off it's an import from japan, And it's made in low numbers to fit the niche market it caters to.
2. Most of the after market body parts non replica come from Japan so that adds to the cost, And for the other engine mods again its a small market so prices are up. You want to save $$? Hangout in the Classifieds and you'll eventually get a deal on all the parts you're looking for. But I agree some parts are pricy. Welcome to the IMPORT mod world. :ugh2: |
:iagree: Volume = price break.
|
Are the z's numbers that low?

Here's an old thread with some close numbers But again unofficially

Table is wide. You may be able to scroll over ---> |
In comparison to Chargers, Challengers, Camaros and Mustangs the Z's number are definitely low. I was shocked too to see the prices of mods for those cars. But not cheap enough to EVER make me cross over...:shakes head:

I don't think the Z's prices are bad. 90% of you are just insane for spending what you spend. My true dual was $425, everything else I made :). O my wheels were 2k but I sold my OEM stuff for $1930
|
Not only are mods cheap, but you can tune american v8's to ridiculous levels of power.
|
Some of that sales volume stems from the charger being a rental car for many companies btw.
Edit: The rest of my argument was invalid... |

Well the parts are going to be cheap considering anything from a 1988 F150 will fit on your modern day muscle car.

Another thing to think about is it seems there's really no middle ground when it comes to the quality aftermarket Z parts. It's either cheap or made close to top notch. There are a bunch of Mustang exhausts that are mild steel and mig welded. There is no exhaust comparable for the Z. You start off with high grade stainless steel with tig welded joints.
Also like said above, the aftermarket is much larger for domestics here because of the volume of domestics out and about. |
I hope the mods are cheap, the car weighs half a ton more than the Z. It's gonna need 600 hp just to get out of the parking lot
like others have said, the aftermarket Z parts tend to gravitate towards higher quality/fit/finish/material trust me, you can find very expensive parts for american muscle cars |

Oh, and it comes with a spare 80hp to boot |

The Charger is less sporty by design. It's a muscle sedan. It's fun for its purposes. The Z is much more of a sports car, much more agile.
Given my choice at a racing circuit, I'll take the Z. Given my choice to transport three adults and some luggage on a 12 hr drive, the Charger fits the bill. |
Pff I think parts for my Z are cheap as hell coming from a VW R32, seems nobody wants to make reasonable parts for a car that there's only 5000 of . So be happy you only have to pay 2x as much as mustang owners ;)
|
I have to agree; our parts are expensive, but we have some really great aftermarket manufacturers w/ top notch quality. I hope whatever ride I step into next, has GTM, Fast Intentions Motordyne, and SPL's aftermarket support.

Oh... and it's a dime a dozen on every street corner... same with the Chargers, Challengers, and Corvettes I'll stick to my neck turning jaw dropping intimidating Z anyday... |
I was shocked by the price of modifications also. I purchased a 98 Jeep Wrangler last Friday and was blown away how cheap parts were for it.
The manifold on the jeep was cracked and I purchased a replacement manifold for $180 and they had it in stock at autozone! I know where my money is going now... |
gotta pay to play
|
The Charger is bloated because it's a "powerful" car for the people who have kids and aren't going to be able to get a car dedicated to power or performance. :) They wish they had the Mustang, but they need 4 doors so have to settle for the Charger. Better than opting minivan or Taurus, I suppose. :) (Although the Taurus SHO is a pretty mean looking car...)
I don't complain much about Z part prices. In my mere 10 minute commute every day, I will see about 10 Chargers and 8+ Mustangs all told. I'll see a 350Z maybe once a week and a 370Z maybe once a month. I like the rarity, and the part prices will have to go with it. I see a Porsche probably every 3 days. I could also say, of the 10 Chargers and 8 Mustangs I see, they might all be optioned out differently, at least. |

Everyone knows that if you wanted a cheap car to mod, you go domestic muscle. |

Look at it this way, more Camry's sold in 2 months than the entire run of Z34. Regarding parts, well being that you can buy an intake , etc for the Dodge at the local Pepboys..................... |
atleast summitracing has good customer service. i feel very out of place ordering from there some times.
