Default Selling the Z...Nissan or another dealer?

Have to sell the Z unfortunately because I have a baby on the way. Tried selling it privately but haven't had any bites. I guess the market is soft or no one has $$$ to spend.

Do you guys suggest to sell it back to a Nissan dealer or take it to another dealership? Who do you think would give me a better offer? And are KBB values that accurate or am I going to be raped when I see their offer ?

ive sold 4 cars to the one local to me. they gave me the highest price and was very plesant to work with.

their apprasial is valid for 7 days (i think it was) and no pressure to sell or buy a new/used car. give them a try.

Agree with carmax. Sold a different car there and they offered about 10 percent higher than the dealer

Makes sense; they're a widespread business that can float lower margins and make up for it in raw bulk.

Which ever you decide to go with I suggest you put your car back to stock and sell the aftermarket parts, in the end you will recover more of your money that way. Dealers aren't going to offer you much more for the after market upgrades, it may even hurt you trade in value if they see the car has been tampered with.

New car dealers will generally give you below "low book," whether it be KBB, Nada, Edmonds, etc. If low book = $23,000, they will most likely offer you less than that. Some of them will insult you and offer you something like $18,000. That's why I stay away from them.

I'd go private party, as long as you can hold out. Finding the right buyer does take some time. And try not to drive the car so you can "minimize" the mileage, wear & tear, etc.

Three times already, I go to carmax to get an appraisal then I get the dealer I am buying the next car from to beat Carmax's offer. I bring the Carmax printout with me. So far the dealer I am working with has always beaten Carmax by $500 to $1,000.

Unfortunately the closest one is 150+ miles away so it doesn't seem feasible to me to drive all the way there and back for $500 more.

As the topic states, would it be better to go to a Nissan dealership for the sell or another dealership?

I would still go to Carmax and get a quote. When I traded my suburban in to get the Z Carmax quoted me at 20,800 for my suburban. The dealer initially wanted to give me 16,000 for it. I pulled out the carmax quote and said they offered me almost 5k more. They tried to pull some crap about how taxes and all that will bring it down to 16K. I called their ******** in front of them and they gave me 21K for the suburban.

The dealer tried to cheat me out of almost 5k for my suburban. Going to carmax was most definetly worth it as I was financing the difference on the Z. Because I got that extra 5k out of the dealer my payments are the exact same as they were for my suburban and I didn't lose anything in the trade. I owe the same on the Z as I owed on the suburban when i traded it in.

Carmax saved me a ton of cash. Definetly worth it.

I agree with Carmax as well. They offered me 2k more for my Altima then the dealer initially offered when I got the Z. The dealer eventually came u to match the Carmax offer. Carmax is usually fair and you'll have a point of reference when you go to a dealer.

I'm another that would agree with carmax. They offered higher amounts for both our 2001 trans am and 2006 corvette when we traded them for our Camaro. Recently we ordered a new 2014 Camaro 1LE and even the manager of the dealer told us to go to carmax first to get a quote before coming to trade in our car for the new one. Typically the dealer will be lower than carmax. So yeah, you may save yourself a 150 mile trip but you also might lose out on thousands. It's a risk as you might go to carmax only to find out that the dealer is willing to give you the same. Maybe for the best thing would be to try 2-3 local dealers to see what you get, then go to carmax. That way you only have to make the trip once. If carmax beats the dealers quote then sell, if not just go back to the dealer with the highest bid. Better than going to carmax, then the dealers, only to have to go back to carmax.

As far as this goes, it really depends on the inventory on the lot. Nissan, Chevy, Ford, Honda, etc will all give you more or less the same value, UNLESS, they are looking to buy a used sports car to put on their lot. If they already have quite a few used sports cars they probably won't care, if they have little to no sports cars they may give you a higher price. Sports cars draw people to the dealer, even if their intention is not to buy it.
