Only way it would happen is if they dropped in the 240 as entry level and slotted the Z up higher in the 40k+ range. Even then, it wouldn't get AWD or anything close to GTR, but maybe a more potent engine and less NVH. That's not happening either though.

An obvious choice that seems to be overlooked would be the VQ25 v6 with a turbo. In fact if I were Nissan I might even drop it down to 2.4L to capitalize on the original 240z name. They could easily make 350hp, keep it a v6 with lighter weight, less NVH and it would sell.
The other option that I think is likely is to go back to 3.5L without VVEL but add in DI, that would probably get the same power or more then the 3.7L with better gas mileage, cheaper price, lower weight, etc. Lose some weight and you have a winner. Third option, given the rumors about platform sharing with Mercedes, perhaps the next Z will get the new 2.0 turbo 4 from the new AMG with 350hp/335tq. If the Z were to lose a couple hundred pounds of weight that would a beastly car. |

Well, we'll see what they do. I hope we get some details sometime next year. If the new Z isn't very impressive, I might SC the 370.

Hope so. I would much rather have a turbo 4 than a hybrid or electric. If its light enough I wouldnt mind a 4 cylinder. I would much rather prefer a 6 cylinder, although a 4 cylinder would be MUCH easier to work on more than likely over the vq37.

I don't mind boost as long as it's on a 6. Nissan doesn't have a 4 cylinder that I'd like to see in a Z. The VQ25 could happen, however, in direct injected turbo form.
If Mazda can make a bulletproof DI-Turbo platform and sell it (MS3), then Nissan sure as hell can. |

Geneva LIVE: Mercedes launches 360-horsepower A 45 AMG Due to the cost of this engine compared to the VQ, I doubt Nissan will employ it, but the option does exist. Mercedes and Nissan confirmed that Merc 4 and 6 cyl engines will be brought over to Infiniti- who knows what they may mean for the Z car. |

The problem with DI is figuring out what to do when you reach the limit of the fuel pump. Those high pressure pumps cost a fortune.

That's pretty reasonable. Still a hell of a lot more than my Walbro. What about injectors? DI is great (other than Audi's carbon deposit issue) other than the cost of upgrades.

Most people get around injector limits by doing a piggyback fueling system. Bigger injectors have been a major issue with the MS3, waiting to see if this is going to be the same with Ford's ecoboost engines. Their 2 liter ecoboost fueling system seems to be topping out at around 350 to 370 hp, stock.

Awesome when's the show
Edit: November .. Nice . I have the biggest feeling the car will look all futuristic though. Hard to best current looks but if its smaller lets not hope for a brz rice rocket. Last edited by JungleZ; 09-11-2013 at 10:10 PM. |
